The Magistrate's House
I stayed up late last night writing my true account of our stay at The Magistrate's House in Berrima, back in 2004.
I had planned to write the story back at the time that it happened, but time gets away you know? I plan a lot of things, but usually get around to doing just a few. I was worried that I'd forget a lot of the details, but as I wrote I began to recall a lot of fine detail.. far too many little extras to include in the story - details like just how frightening the dining room was at night, with ivy tapping and scratching at the grimy windows like something trying to get in.. and my deliberate attempt to scare myself at around midnight, by walking through every creaking room of the house without turning any lights on.
Reliving the experience as I wrote into the small hours totally took me back into the house and I was immersed in that fear again. Wave after wave of goosebumps like warm breath on my neck, so that I kept looking behind me. By the time I finished writing it was almost 3am, so as I fell into bed and tried to sleep, my mind was alive with images and memories, both real and imagined.
Anyway, the short story is the latest addition to my Stories page. I hope you like it, and yes, every word is true (hand on heart)! I highly recommend reading it at night to taste some of that fear I felt while writing.
Don't forget to check out the Magistrate's House website, linked at the end of the story. There you'll see some suitably creepy photographs of the stuff I described.
Uncyclopedia
I suppose it was around a year ago that I was flattered when fans created my Wikipedia page, but damn I feel extra-special now. Somebody recently brought my Uncyclopedia page to my attention, and it's a great read! All this stuff I didn't know about myself :D
