Slingshots

I love home-made projectile weapons.. the more simple and silent the better. The slingshot has to be one of my favourite ever.. it's just so perfect.

I've often wondered what it would be like to be fired from a gigantic slingshot into a lake, and once (years ago now) I designed what I thought would be the next big thing: a theme park attraction that flings people hundreds of metres to the middle of a lake. Of course it never went further than diagrams in my school books.

Tonight looking through YouTube, I stumbled across this by complete accident.. it's absolutely incredible.

whoa, look at her go, I couldn't do something like that, I'm not much of a thrill junkie.

Although being thrown into a lake actually sounds quite fun, I'd be more okay with it, because eaven if something went wrong, i'd still land in water, un-harmed.

yeah or perhaps you'd skim across the surface like a stone - - except a floppy, screaming one with limbs and hair thrashing about :D

The fact that out there in the world there may be people that might be bringing your actual ideas into reality is a scary thought. i'll be keeping my eye on the national enquirer..... spooky.
Oh and I want to have a go.. hee hee

it's only scary for you because I've drawn blood on you with my projectile weapons huh? (remember that paper-clip harpoon that I got you with? ouch!)

By the way the elastics are attached to the waist, and from the very strong acceleration at the release moment, the body will bend backwards. I think that there are severe risks of spinal column injury doing this. Imagine If the "victim" was facing the other way around during release, it would be much less dangerous, obviously.

And I wonder (not) why the video was cut before the "landing"... I bet something went very wrong...

Your right that is incredible! it's like a horizontal bungee, but better - and simpler. It also makes me wonder why we do such bizarre things for a thrill. :P
