More work, less health!

This week: Adam whines a bit about his health, shows some stuff he did a couple months ago for Wizards of the Coast, and updates the Waterlollies graph that has become so compulsory.

I've been given the all-clear to mention my work for Wizards of the Coast on a new ONLINE GAME of theirs called "Uncivilized: the Goblin Game". This was yet another awesomely fun assignment, very similar to my 30 shorts project in which each day was a new and completely different challenge.

Without giving anything away about the game, I can reveal that my part of the job involved creating a few icon-sized graphics/animation, as well as a bunch of short animated scenarios (for which I also did a bit of voice acting) that play between levels of achievement in the game.

Here are some screenshots from those shorts:

Oasis

Scrub

Shakedown

For updates on the release of Uncivilized, keep an eye on Wizards of the Coast.

Little things are starting to go wrong with me and I put them down as a direct result of my long hours at the computer, for around 80 hrs per week over 2-3 years. Headaches, stomach pain, sudden dizzy spells, backache and minor waves of nausea, not to mention bones and joints that simply hurt when I get out of the chair. My body clock is so out of whack from working all night and sleeping until midday, 7 days a week.

With a tear in my eye, I've decided to quit WoW for a little while and go back to my earlier routine of exercising in the back yard between 2-3am. Perhaps that'll fix some of the biological mess that is my body.

Today was unusually warm for August in Sydney, so we went for a long walk around Iron Cove. I'd almost forgotten what it was like to feel sun and wind on my face. Gotta do more things like that.

Waterlollies
Thanks for the comments in the chatbox.. it's required reading for me each day and gives me a much-needed boost.

Thanks (I think) to those few who aggressively demand a Waterlollies update and new graph. While those kinds of comments generally make me want to throw my pen in the air and quit, it does prove that there are people out there who are desperate to see the next Brackenwood. Keeping that in mind gives me the go-ahead nod that says 'you're doing something good'.

I can't wait to release this movie cos I think it's going to be great. Beyond Waterlollies though I can hear echoes from the future: "hurry up with the next one you lazy bastard!!"

I've removed the audio from the graph because it'll only take a few days for each part so therefore, won't be as slow-moving as the animation indicator. Speaking of which, Part C is about 4 minutes long so the graph will probably move slower week-by-week than A and B.

Love from Phillips.

Love you really. =D

This is far from the first time I've heard of "Over-enthusiastic fans demanding next instalment" some people somehow believe you owe them something.

It'll always be there, I don't know what to suggest )=

I know my Sarus is very sketchy (not to mention the improvisation I made...), but I figured I'd be squashed by the opposition for making that suggestion and felt it needed to be said!

Take care!

Oh man, I have to say I love the little screenshots from Uncivilized. Your dorky characters with funny teeth are just brilliant, the frogs expression in the first one is hilarious too.

Keep well and keep up the good work :)

heya Adam,

sad to hear that you're not feeling that great... I too used to play WoW quite a bit and decided to quit to improve my health.. and it certainly did. Best of luck! Exciting to see how much closer you are to finishing the next movie! thanks for the graph!

Dude... most of us are sane enough to just patiently wait for Water lollies. We know that its going to kick some serious ass, and we eagerly await the day that you show the world just how far Flash can really bring our ideas and imaginations to life.

You are a visionary to us, we will follow you blindly wherever you go because we know that even your spit can not only sell for a hell of a lot on ebay :p But that it also most likely be beautifully animated. :p

You know I kid :p
Take your time dude, no need to put yourself in submission just because you want to get it done. Take some time to yourself and chillax.

~ peace.

You might wanna take a few days off the computer and just get outside, otherwise if you don't you might never be able to use a computer again, so a few days from the computer would be better than be really unhealthy and not being able to use the computer or something

Just a question to Adam:

Do you think that Waterlollies will be submitted to Newgrounds as one submission, or will it be split up? (are the three parts PHYSICALLY going to be split?)

Ideally I'd like to submit Waterlollies to NG as one single movie, but when it comes time to put the three parts together, I'll see what the file size is like. I'm pretty sure it'll be OK to stay whole.

High five for us freelancers! Of course, I'm stuck in America and writing articles, but it's all the same sort of concept, right? Pays the bills (ah, barely).

Looking forward with great enthusiasm to Waterlollies. I was introduced to your work back in college (what, 4 years ago now?) and think it is the best flash I have ever seen. Keep up the fantastic work. Freelancers unite!

I can't wait to see Waterlollies. After being introduced very recently to Brachenwood through NewGrounds I've been in love with the entire concept altogether. Such vivid detail and imagination. I hope to see one of your flashes as a potential candidate for an Oscar later in the future. The art is something that can't be denied by anyone who watches any of the Brachenwood shorts, but especially the most recent ones such as the YuYu.

Also, what's this Uncivilized? I've been a life-long Magic player and, to say the least, I'm intrigued by it all.

Anyways, if you should read this, you have my hopes for your continued success and here's wishing you better health. Can't wait to see more of you art.

You rock. Take time out to recuperate, it's way more important to stay healthy. Everyone will survive if Waterlollies takes a little longer.

I'm not THAT desperate for youR work but I will kill you if you quit :3
your animations have been a ghreat inspiration for me to make my own animations, they're not even half as good as yours are but I hope one day I can reach the bar you've set so high.
I also love the story... I've read the yuyu story about your uncle (atleast I think it was about your uncle... because that was the impression I got) and even thought it's fictional it's full of the rare spirit that makes it unique.
you're a great inspiration to me and many others so don't you dare ever to quit.
If you are as talented as I think you are then deffinitelly someday some big fish will come and sponsor the brackenwoods movie ;)

Enough that I drew that for you.

Stay positive, some of us know how much time and effort projects of this size take. Take as much time as you need, we don't want to see it 'till you're happy with it.
