Delayed again

I was holding off on making a new blog post in the hope that my next one would be the release announcement. However, we're delayed again so I think an update is necessary.

I know some readers understand that this ain't no drag-and-drop audio hack project, but 10 minutes of original orchestral score + full custom environmental soundscapes. Those people will wait patiently for another 2 months if necessary and still enjoy the movie when it's released. To those people, thanks! Here's a new screenshot:

If on the other hand, you are one of those who are increasingly irritated at the ongoing delays and demand an explanation, here it is:
The reason for this particular delay is the simple fact that part C is more than half of the movie. It's greater than A and B put together. Because part C > (A+B), I don't think any of us truly appreciate the sheer volume of work needed to fill Part C with audio. This is the reason my timeframe estimates consistently fall short.
Having said all this, the new estimate is as follows: Part C music will be finished by October 15 and the sound effects will be completed in the week that follows. Each time Nathan delivers audio to me, I make notes for changes, which are promptly seen to by him. This process usually takes an additional few days.

Therefore, we're looking at Oct 15 + a week + a few days = Oct 25 (ish). Here's how it will be released and who sees it first:
  • Day 1 - send out Waterlollies to my preview list by email (industry people, journalists, bloggers, friends, family)
  • Day 2 - Selected groups on the Brackenwood forum (Mods, Admin, MotM)
  • Day 3 - Brackenwood forum, General members
  • Day 4 - BiteyCastle.com front page announcement and WoodenBlog article
  • Day 5 - released on Newgrounds.com

TRAILER COMP SECURES SPONSOR
More info on this in a later update but for now, the makers of the fantastic Digital Pro software, ToonBoom Animation have kindly agreed to sponsor the upcoming Brackenwood trailer competition to celebrate the launch of the Brackenwood Store. This means that the grand prize-winner* will score a full commercial license of ToonBoom Studio v4.0. worth US $399.oo

Check out the personal learning edition and don't forget to download the excellent tutorials.

*I say "grand prize" because there will be Brackenwood Store prizes for two runners up.

Files to be made available
To make it easier for you to create your Brackenwood trailer, I'll be uploading chunks of my movies in .mov format and posting links for you to download and use those files.

Once the competition is under way, your entry should be uploaded to YouTube and the winner will be decided by community vote on the Brackenwood forum.

Some of you may be able to work without my .mov files and get a slight headstart (note - a headstart doesn't gain you any real advantage, other than the time you have to work on your entry). Check out the first entry here.

You broke my heart.
Especially when you said "two months".
I'm slightly confused.
But later on you said two weeks.
But it DOES NOT matter.

Because I know that the movie is going to be very awesome.
As the rest of your movies.

The fact that you care about your fans is awesome.
These movies are something that noone can forget after watchin them.

But I really hope that you get a team for the toonboom brakkenmovie.
I know that you can, and want to, work alone. But it's bad to do so.

Wish that I could help, but hopefully in ten years or so I can.
(you do realize that you can't go on with this alone?).

Don't stress yourself to death, don't die. Seriously, you're an awesme inspiration to all young animators.
If you need a backround artist somewhere around 2014, I'm there for you!
Best wishes, Sebastian Drab (AKA Diphallia Gekkonidae).

P.S. is this Nathan you're talking about the much?

Didn't you say previously that the release date may be around October 20th? Or did I just dream it...?

As always, I have no problem with waiting as long as it takes for this flash movie to be of its best quality, video and audio wise. Keep up the great work. I was mentioning your situation to some musician friends of mine who know of your work (through me). Two of them said they'd gladly do music for you, which I found quite amusing, as you have Nathan McCree composing your music for you, which I mentioned shortly thereafter.
Ah well, it's good to know there are a few backup musicians out there that you don't even know, if you ever need them. Hahah.

I'd really like to have a crack at editing a trailer. Makes me kinda wish I had Adobe Premier. I've used it, however when I get to the point where I add music, the slope downhill just increases, along with my frustration.

Tell Nathan to keep up the good work, or don't. Whatever suits you :D. I figure I've told you to keep up the good work enough. It's his turn.

I'm now officially depressed; I think I threw up a little in my mouth when you said it was going to be another 2 weeks.

HOWEVER, I am one of those first people that would wait until 2008 if necessary to have everything just perfect. Your stuff is amazing and the idea of a full length movie one day makes me so excited.

Don't worry about us fans; the only reason that we get disappointed is that we are addicted to your work like it was crack.

But, until then...know that you have a fan patiently waiting in Dallas, Texas.

This competition excites me, not only for the fact that its going to be fun and worth while with cool prizes. But also for the fact that Ill be animating for you for all people :p

This will look really really good for the portfolio I'm constructing. ^_^

I visit the forum, blog and brackenwood page regularly but never till today have I ever said a word on any of them. But today, my friend, I can't bite my tounge.

Most people who admire your fine work are willing to wait as long as possibly necessary for everything to be of your liking. And most importantly, you really owe all your followers no explanation what so ever , for I recall not a penny being charged for the gargantual work you shove over your own shoulders.

I profundly admire your work. Keep it up. You have many followers (like myself) in Spain.

One cool thing you could do:

Create a short teaser, with some short cuts from the movies. You could use a piece of the music from part 1 / 2 on that, or a completely separate song.

Would be fantastic!

This is just so exciting! I'll probably end up watching about 200 times... Of course, that's the advantage of such attention to detail. Sure, it takes a long time to create, but people will end up watching it way more than they would something that's boring to look at, even if it has a great story.

I'm sure it will be an amazing piece of work when it is done. Take as long as you need... You can't rush art right. It seems like every one is willing to wait as long as you tell us to wait... I just hope this isn't some kind of social experiment to see how long people can be kept anticipating something before they go nuts. But I'm willing to take that chance.

Or you could make a compotition for people to give you ideas on the castle but... bloody hell it's adam phillips, this guy dont need ideas of other people. Anyways, love 2 hear from u - loz

Well anonymous from a few days(?) ago, it's Halloween. Apparently the word on the street is wrong. *lol*

I think it's update time anyway! It doesn't take that long to type a few words on a bloggy (if anything just to let us know he's alive - we care Adam!). We don't need super-detailed info or another tentative date. Just say hi and that's it's still cookin' in the oven. ;)

Fair enough.. I really don't want to make a proper blog post until the movie's released which always seems to be just one or two days away.

Right now I have the movie finished and ready to upload. The unfortunate thing is that I'm having technical difficulties with Actionscript 3 and there are a few bugs in the Play button and scene navigation.

The blog is getting an overhaul too, so if I make another post, it's just another thing to update.

In summary.. movie's finished, about 70 people have seen the exclusive preview and it was released on the forum for a few hours (before it was leaked to Newgrounds and I removed it). Expect the wait to last no longer than a couple of days now :)

i'm looking so much forward to this. just that the preview was taken down made me crave this piece of inspiration even more. As said before you adam are on my top 3 of main inspirational sources at the moment, and have been for a year or so. i mean the yuyu and bitey of brackenwood and the others are pretty decent pieces of work, not brilliant in any way, they are way above average in style and animation, and i know deep down that waterlollies will take flash to levels it has not seen yet.
and that makes you amazing in my eyes. you have made stuff that have amazed me, even though it is not ground breaking, by optimizing the flash format to render amazing visuals and telling a story at the same time.

really looking forward to this.
