Do Not Think of What it Is You Eat . . .But of Who

« on: December 10, 2008, 03:55:31 PM »

Dear Whoever Reading This,
Until now I had been using a hand-me-down microphone named Lucy. Lucy died (and that's okay - Lucy had awful quality).  I don’t know much about audio devices – it’s one of my weakness. So I need some help choosing out a good new mic.  I want to know what’s out there, and who better to ask then you guys.  I'm just starting out so I'm hoping you all can help a noob out here.

What I need:
 - I plan on using it a lot, so I’ll need a nice one, price range is debatable – show me anything and everything.
 - Like I said, I’m new to audio, but I’m also a quick learner, so it needs to be somewhat user friendly but not too simplified to where I would lose any quality.
 - I plan to use it for voice-overs and Narrations, lots of Narrations. Thus I need something with very clear recording abilities.
 - I’d prefer something professional, quality is the most important factor to me.
 - If possible, give me links to places where I can find out more about it, or someone can just give me some links to find a selection of good stuff.
 - If you don’t know how to help me, just tell me what you use, and how well it works for you, and where I might find it.

Please Help Me.

Graciously,
Poesbird.

Post Script – Also, this is a good place to offer any other advice or personal experiences that may help help regarding audio in general. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I use a Samson USB mic and it does everything i need at a high quality. I use it for voice and recording a 100W guitar amplifier, it's had no problems so far.
For voices though you are going to want a pop filter, either make it yourself or get a good one.

I use the Samson Q1U, it's fine for what i do.
However the Audio C01U condenser mic looks better, also pricier.
