Hi, I'm an absolute newbie and anticipate visiting this forum pretty often so please be patient.
When I try to import WAV files or MP4s to the library, I hear the "gonk" sound and it tells me it couldn't import the file because it had "trouble reading them".  Sound files with the mp3 file extension import with no problem.  I'm using a MacBook Pro with OS X (10.5.5.) and it seems anything I load into iTunes becomes an MP4, despite adjusting the encoder to "mp3 encoder" in "Preferences".
Since I hope to create soundtracks for my animation in Pro Tools with WAV files, this spells trouble for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

hey man, welcome to the forum.
What version of Quicktime do you have installed? I used to get a similar error back on an earlier Flash version and I read somewhere that if you didn't have Quicktime installed, Flash doesn't know what to do with those files. This may or may not be the answer to your problem but my guess is that if you have iTunes installed, you have Quicktime too. Maybe you could export your mp4s to mp3s within the standalone Quicktime app? Let me know how you go.

edit - oh btw: one more thing you could try is right-clicking the file in iTunes, and choose 'create mp3 version'. You'll only get this option if mp3 is your import preference I think.

Yep, my old PC with older iTunes converts 'em, no problem so I'm okay for now.  Thanks!  BTW, "Waterlollies" is absolutely incredible!  Reminds me of watching Eddie Van Halen play guitar.  (Inspires as well as makes me want to quit altogether.) I'm sure I'll be back when I hit another snag so, thanks again!
