answer my riddle n the esophagus will let you pass

« on: March 09, 2009, 10:30:18 PM »

Deadline
16th of March, 2009.

Thanks to Espen for allowing me to run the WDA for the time hes busy.

This week's Topic will be a bit different.
The WDA will be in 3 Parts but let me introduce the topic first.

"Tiny worlds, can barely be seen with the naked eye but there is a mysterious world all around us.
Brisky places full of life, whole civilisations we have never seen."

The WDA is split into 3 parts:
1)population (1 week)
2)houses (1 week)
3)a glimpse at the tiny worlds (2 weeks)

winning one part of those will be like a normal wda win, the participiant with the most votes in all 3 of them gets an extra price!

What you need to do to get into the votes:
-1 (or more) inhabitants of the civilization of the tiny world how you imagine it

-dont have to be humanoid whatever you think fits for a tiny world is okay if you can argument for it,
-dont have to be a perfectly rendered illustration, its the design that counts, try to convey your idea and make sure the design itself is readable
if you wish to render everything out, great!

The pictures format can maximum be 1000x1000 or less.
when the deadline is over, a vote will be raised , for you to vote for your favorite entry, I'm not the judge here, everyone is.

Have one post for your entry, feel free to post work in progress images, so people may give you critiques, but don't post a new picture in new a post, edit your old post with the update.

CLEARLY DESIGNATE YOUR FINAL.

Please save your entry as, for example. "your-name_wda36.jpg"don't use old drawings, and use more then 15 minutes on the picture.  argh!

And with that I'm telling you to have fun, and get inspired to create the best design you can!

 Bingbong

NEW BANNERS as a prize.

haha damn thats quick espen and it looks awesome  argh!
couldnt wait to start my designs xD

going for tiny humans though coz im planning to add some stuff i thought which would be best with some human kind, i may change some parts of the anatomy maybe, but thats my initial concept work

my ideas: a small folk living in the forest has to face a lot of threads, the ants, the bees, other animals and so on. during their evolution they found out that they can use the light, flexible and really hard pincers of the ants and other insects for armour, though they also use metals they gather from garbage thrown away in the forest, so they also use metal armour and weapons. in the fight against the ants they try to beat them with their own weapons, their poison claws struggle to go through the hard pincer-armour, using their weapon they can easily hit the thin legs of the ants, once the ants are immovable they use the other end of their weapon to rip the pincers off, which they carry home to build new armour. since they are in a enormously long war with the ant empire they dont have the need to go hunting, the battlefields are filled with useful resources. the tiny folk also found out how to trick the ants with their own smell communication system, they use it in the fight to confuse the ants, but they also use it to domesticate the ants and use it as a mount.

lol

This one seems confusing to me. A 'tiny world' meaning an imaginary small planet? And because it references a civilization...I guess it should have clothing and a general appearance of high intelligence...I'm just confused on this, lol. Any further clarification?  Tongue

gosh rolleyes Tongue dont get caught by all the words, it just means a tiny folk, if u think it would be best for yours to be on their own tiny planet, do it, if u think they live around us or inside us, do it, whatever comes to your mind, do it!

civilization musnt be of high intelligence...look at some of the insects at our precious planet for example

just be creative think of something tiny, how life would be for an individual which is barely bigger than a grain of sand, how could their houses look like, how could they look like, how would their social system would be and so on...

dont think too much, thinking may be an idea killer and the most important...dont judge your ideas, dont do what you think is expected from you, just do what you think fits the topic well, i left this wda really open, all you need this week are 2 character designs, everything else is up to you and your imagination...

hope that helped a bit and can not wait to see some more entries!

Actually, I think I'm going to back off of this one so I can take some time and put together a sketch book. Once I get a little better I'll participate in another.

I thought I wouldn't enter in this one but I suddenly got inspiration.

Here's my first design, heavily influenced by some lovely breakcore I had on.  Cool

As 1000x1000 > 1200x800 so I'm sure this is fine Tongue

Thanks Katat ^^

Here's another design, a closeup on the head (with a bit of the wings visible). I'm quite pleased with the way the eye turned out, though I'm not sure about the overall design of the head.

I appreciate your comments to no end, but ultimately I would feel more capable (not to mention comfortable) next to some of you after I loosen up a bit. That said, I can't wait to see more stuff in this wda as I think the general guiding concept behind it is rather interesting.

and make sure they fit the brief!

with that im changing the brief too: all you have to hand in is one character concept, coz i know not everyone wants to make 2, unfortunately... ^^

New head for my tiny folk.

I like this one far more, so it will be my final together with my first pic (the body shot).

Also a little background I just made up along this line from a song I just heard (probably a movie quote originally) "Death comes for us all, but something much worse comes for you." My tiny folk resemble the Yuyu a bit, in that they come for you when you transition from one world to another. However, these ones come for you when you die and have lived a bad life. They consume your soul and use part of its energy to open a portal to Hell. They then go through this portal to bring the hollow remainder of your soul (leaving only negative feelings such as misery and hatred) into Hell where they leave it and return to this world to wait for the next soul.
