answer my riddle n the esophagus will let you pass

« on: March 16, 2009, 09:51:17 PM »

okay people here are the contestants for this week's WDA with the topic "Tiny worlds" applause applause
awesome entries everyone, its really nice to see the different styles and thoughts behind your design!

im really sorry i can not include ravenseye's masterpiece, this wda was for character design, so i didnt include it into the votes, im sorry for you

Espen:

PlasticCup:
Description: My tiny folk resemble the Yuyu a bit, in that they come for you when you transition from one world to another. However, these ones come for you when you die and have lived a bad life. They consume your soul and use part of its energy to open a portal to Hell. They then go through this portal to bring the hollow remainder of your soul (leaving only negative feelings such as misery and hatred) into Hell where they leave it and return to this world to wait for the next soul.

tack:
Description: Although they are not the most complex organisms in the universe, their creations are. Similar to humans almost. They communicate through exaggerated blinking and eye movements as they don't have mouths.

Snowman:

Katatafisch:
Description :a small folk living in the forest has to face a lot of threads, the ants, the bees, other animals and so on. during their evolution they found out that they can use the light, flexible and really hard pincers of the ants and other insects for armour, though they also use metals they gather from garbage thrown away in the forest, so they also use metal armour and weapons. in the fight against the ants they try to beat them with their own weapons, their poison claws struggle to go through the hard pincer-armour, using their weapon they can easily hit the thin legs of the ants, once the ants are immovable they use the other end of their weapon to rip the pincers off, which they carry home to build new armour. since they are in a enormously long war with the ant empire they dont have the need to go hunting, the battlefields are filled with useful resources. the tiny folk also found out how to trick the ants with their own smell communication system, they use it in the fight to confuse the ants, but they also use it to domesticate the ants and use it as a mount.

Poesbird:
Description: Civilizations of McNac-Nacs attach themselves to specks of dust and other tiny particles.  Then they begin mining out and creating entire cities on these tiny specks. The root-like sticks that extend from a females’ back are a sign of fertility, so the bigger the back growths the more attractive the female McNac-Nac.  They have plant-like roots that extend from their torso, when they are sick or pregnant, they will plant themselves like flowers to steal extra nutrients from the earth. They are also known as lemon-headed dust bunnies because they have heads that have a shape that resembles the squished shape of a lemon.  Their ears are actually tiny and pointed, not floppy and oversized, the bunny-like ears are simulated by the upward ribbons that are attached to their mining goggles.  McNac-Nacs are naturally curious and very adaptable to their surroundings. They love collecting, especially bits of string and glass, so it is not uncommon to see them decorating with threads and shards of broken glass.  Though McNac-Nacs are a naturally born species they love to thrive on the new and unusual, they are fascinated with the absurd and bizarre creations of man so they often hide in sock drawers and on computer screens. Wherever dust can be found, the McNac-Nacs can survive and thrive.

I vote for Espen's Characther lol

Also, I have a lengthier description of my McNac-Nac for those who might be curious---

damn what a hard decision...

i think i vote for Poesbird.

@arvid: awesome rendering mate! really stunning...cant say it often enough xD

@espen: nice character design, awesome rendering

@PlasticCup: i like the idea if the folk and its different from the rest, some more defined rendering would have been nice, still very nice work

@tack: lol i love them, they are so cute ^^ cant wait to see their houses!!!

@ snowman: i like the descriptions and the drawing, it looks really cool, dont like the solid colors too much, maybe you add some gradients or a bigger variety of brightness and hue and some highs here and there, but the design itself is cool

@poesbird: really outstanding design, i love the idea, its unique, it fits the topic, its readable and well drawn, i also totally liked the story behind it. good work

@katatafisch: lol you uncreative %$§&" ! why the hell did u take humans? its soo lame xD

thanks for the awesome participation everyone

espen
the design is great, i'd make a few adjustments to make the picture flow better,
but i guess that's not that important atm.
love the lips and the toes;
maybe add them tiny fingernails so the hands and feet would match.

plasticcup
fun concept, it'd be nice to see them in action or have some more dynamic to them.
maybe too ethereal and formless for my taste Undecided

snowman
nicely thought out, got to love them flying amphibians.
i'd try different eye placement and perhaps have them pop out similiar to frogs

poesbird
mcnac-nacs? haha.
the design is cluttered with detail, but it sort of works.
mixing up the proportions would be a good idea in my opinion.
i like their heads and the tiny specs.

arvid
i like how what's inside glows through. always liked the young snails too,
with soft shells as you can see the hearts beat.
also, love the tiny legs! cute

I vote for Espen

My vote goes to Cantdraw. The name is a lie!

Espen: really love the rendering, too bad you didn't work out what seems like a battle-axe, would've loved to see some weapon design.

Tack: Really good simple design, I bet they have a lot of potential for animation.

Snowman: they remind me a little of those flowery floaty things in Littlefoot. It's a cute design, but I can't really imagine them building anything, so the next WDA might be a problem. If they CAN build houses etc. I would love to read how they would do this Smiley

Katatafish: I really like the design and rendering of your people, and I love the idea of a tiny human vs. ant war.

Poesbird: I quite like their design, and I would love to see another rendering in a non-flash format. I've seen too much flash videos where people overused the pencil+paint bucket combination, and I've grown allergic to it, so I think I would appreciate the design more if it was done in Photoshop or Sketchbook Pro. By the way, are you Dutch? (Guessing from your name.)

Cantdraw: I really, really love your style and rendering. The head of the snail reminds me of the Hollow from the anime series Bleach ^^

That snail is so cool, I vote Cantdraw.

Espen: Cool design with great rendering
Plasticcup: A very eerie and neat concept, love the eye on the lower picture
tack: Haha awesome little mini-cyclops's
Poesbird: I got lost in the picture, I can't really tell what's going on but it's a creative concept
Katatafish: Almost voted for yours, the wide array of clothing/armor you drew is great and the description makes me look forward to your last illustration for 'Tiny Worlds'  Grin

And thanks for leaving me feedback guys, I appreciate it  Smiley
