Hello everyone, i made this topic for everyone to post his or her opinion on WDAs, to give some feedback or critiques you may post everything you like or dislike about the WDA....and besides you have a place to drop ideas for topics or another set of rules or everything you have in mind that could be added to the WDA.
Greetings, yout Katatafisch

okay i had an idea concering the participation of the wda
if we have really low participation i think as a punishment or so, or just to give those who are willing to participate but dont find the time a chance to participate nonetheless
when there are 3 or less entries for a wda, the next wda will be one week longer, up to maximum a month
when there are 5 or more entries, the next wda will be shortened by one week, up to minimum a week
what do you guys think of this idea?

I don't think this would work. Two weeks seem enough to me to find at least a moment to sketch up a bit. In the last WDA nobody even posted sketches, so I don't think anyone was seriously working on it but just lacked time.I often don't join in because a certain subject just doesn't inspire me, and if I have to wait longer for the next WDA I'll lose interest in the WDAs altogether.
Maybe it's an idea to have 2 concurrent bi- or triweekly WDAs, that way you can take your pick and work on that one while still having enough time to finish it all up.Dunno if this would be too much work though.

what do u mean with that? to have 2 wdas? dnt u think it gets a bit confusing having so many competitions?with all those threads and how to give banners or judge? i offered this thread also that everyone can drop ideas for topics, and to complain if my topics are too stupid

Yea, make deadlines stricter. If its extended, people begin to feel as though they can just skip the deadline a little and post later, and maybe forget to post at all. If its a fast competition and they rapidly come out, then either people will feel the need to post quicker, or have less time to wait for a topic that interests them. As for having multiple WDA's, you could put them in one post, and have people declare which category theyre in. When it comes to voting, seporate them out into 2-3 seporate lists. Maybe 2 themed WDA's, like a weekly general one, or a comic one, maybe even gothic etc (although after a few weeks it may begin to get old). People can vote for the one they like best in each category, and there could be a "best in show" award.

I agree about the stricter deadlines. It helps in teaching time management and if no one likes the WDA topic they know that it'll finish at a certain time. Extensions would still be possible if everyone was screaming for one, but I thought the idea was to see how well you could create something, revise it, clean it up, refine it in a given period of time. Not about doing your very absolute forevesys best, just what you can come up with at that time.

WDA = Weekly design activity right? I think we should stick to one week deadlines for every WDA.
I agree with plastic cup. I only ever join WDA when the topic really interests me, and when I have to wait three weeks at a time to see if I'd want to participate I kinda lose interest all together.

yeah i know how you guys feel, but i was really busy with working on the portfolio and all that stuff, i will try to get the wda up more recently
but its a pity if nobody participates and i just try to be friendly that more people can participate if they get some more time, coz i know how it feels like to be short on time and a week is quite short for coming up with an illustration and so on, especially when youre working, having personal projects and have your weekend planned already...
i understand that some of you dont want to wait some weeks for another wda and loose interest but 2 weeks should be bearable...dont u think so?!
so i will shorten this wda to 2 weeks, if thats okay for you guys and maybe future wdas will be only 1 week if the majority is for a consistant WDA with only 1 week duration, even if it means that some people who actually do want to join cant hand in their entries coz of the close deadline.

The thing of it is too, the goal of the WDA (as far as my understanding goes) isn't to create a completed illustration, but is to come up with a design. You certainly don't need a fully rendered painting to submit as your final entry, which means a week is definitely enough time.

I agree. I think if everyone worked their tails off to submit for the WDA, then they would be too stressed out to even submit another one in fear that their previous work was better and overall, be overwhelmed and not motivated. It's not your problem Kata, but I just think people should just stick to designs and concepts, instead of making decadent and elaborate works when you can get the same idea across with sketches. We know everyone is capable of making amazing pieces of art, but it's all just for the "awe-factor", if you know what I mean.

i totally know what you guys mean...lol unfortunately im such a person myself, i like rendering out everything really fine and make a piece of art for it, but maybe for that we should get the monthly illustration activity back up again.. your points are totally true, so the next wda's will be one week thanks for dropping your thoughts here guys, so i get an idea how other people think about it

Since this was brought up in the other thread. How about having a one month Illustration activity besides the weekly WDAs? Whereas WDA's would be all about ideation, the Illustration activity would be about desiging and making a fully finished Illustration.
