There will need to be a good theme, so hopefully someone will come up with one. As for making teams, im sure that it can be as simple as posting an offer in a post and someone accepting it (how they come up with an idea that they both agree on, thats another matter ). There should also be a post with a list of all current teams. Im sure that even if the majority of members on the forum take part, we should be able to keep this manageable. One important matter is whether we try to place all the games/movies in one file, or have a collective pre-loader or something, so that each project can be recognised as part of the collab

i got an idea for a theme how about if your making a game it has to be a game that is something like castle crashers or portal defenders i mean like up is moving up and a is to jump and what not. If your making a animation it can be about 2D games that r like that

Hmm, if we do decide to do a PO3 knock off, then we need a programmer, animator, and a composer. I think something like that would be fun. Should there be a common theme that has to be used with every team, or can there be whatever the team decides to come up with, basing the competition around skill of execution?
If we don't decide to do a game, then I guess the same goes for collabing an animation?

well here is an idea instead of a 3 man team why not make a community project its not a competition but it will make for a stronger community and also should have a very nice outcome

If we do this were going to have to draft some rules as to what is accepted and what is not and why we need to create a common style that is easy for everyone to use but cannot distract an artist from their own style but i really think that this would be alot of fun!

Why not a collab with both a games section and a Movie section? We still need a theme, but how about these rules: 24fps Must be in a standalone MC. Code can go in its own AS Class file (AS3, or is there a way of using AS3 and AS2 in one file?). We will need to limit file size aswell, since if we have a large number of members join we could pass 10MB easily. We will need to set a limit on resolution. We could go with widescreen, default flash, etc. Must have obvious relation to the theme

Im not sure of what your saying adzy but i'm assuming you mean make a game and a movie if so i think that that is a good idea I am a big fan of the blender community and i think that we should take a stab at their approach 1. Our content should be Open Source (meaning that if i animate a character or write a code someone can download it and use it for their own project as long as they follow the rules of whatever cc license is attached) for those that may not know 2. The Movie and game should be related 3. And If it is really good which is kinda possible then we could try to market a DVD with Special Features and such. (no clue on how to do this and as to where the money would go)

Close, but not quite. I meant that this could work like a normal collab, where anyone can make a small peice of the overall file, like a normal NG collab, but they can choose to get together and make a quick movie, or make a game, or work solo, and in the end, we can have a menu screen which will have the top part listing the movies, and the bottom listing the games. the problem i can see with this is that it will be hard to put together fully, and games generally will take the viewer a long time to complete, while each movie may only take a couple of mins at most. Your idea might actually work better. We have to remember not to make this too confusing right off though, since if it starts off confusing it will probably only end up getting worse

Yeah we should definitely Keep it simple with the community project any member of the forums can make a peice of the overall project as long as it follows the basic style and rules I actually got the idea for this from ZFGC.com a community that is largely indie game developers

Right, once we set the final rules, ill start of a seporate thread with the rules and a space for making small groups (if you choose), any interest you have in it, etc. Well, the basic rules i can think of are: 24 fps Put your project in an isolated MovieClip to make transfer easy. Stick to the theme We will need a time limit for each segment. Games must be completable in a reasonable time. Someone will need to make a pre-loader. Care will need to be taken labeling movie clips, since if two people use the same names, flash might wipe some of them. Maybe each group/artist adds a unique tagg to the end of their Movie Clips. We also need to choose a theme before we can do anything. Collaboration and sharing code/graphics/sound is encouraged aswell

i think that we should give this collab thing a name. I also think that it should be with teams doesnt matter if its a programmer and a animator just w\e it can be 2 animators in 1 team it doesnt matter and i think that each team should have a name xD and every1 who wnats to do this should say it and there should be a list and whoever wants to work together should ask each other. And you dont have to make a collab time thing like alot of short clips and such it can be one whole animation with 1 plot but with different artists and what not

it can be something like aldlv_fullbody? or maybe fullbody_adzy-2k6 something like that would be fine... also, i would like to know how many programes we have for this project and what do ppl use more? AS2 or AS3 because as you said... if you use 3, i'm won't be able to be in (at least in the programing part) But would be great to Ask what does everyone use...

One more thing, what versions of flash will you be using? I will be using flash cs4, and programming in AS3. If you are only animating, I doubt there will be much problem, but if people intend to code in both versions of AS, they cannot go into the same file. We could all make seporate files and use the same pre-loader in all parts of the animation, but then all parts wont be together. Another thing is, will we be making this to submit to NG. NG seems the best way to spread the callab, since the portal allows a lot of viewers to see it, which would gain more publicity for the site. As aldv said, put _username next to a movie clip to avoid clashes. Discuss
