There's this job I've been looking for someone professional and experienced to do (With way more financial backing than I had a few years ago when I posted a job notice here) and there are these two I have contacted about it who expressed some interest (I won't say names for fear they will hear about it and this will get ugly) but when I explained that the main character is a homosexual and this is more or less integral to the story, they said some fairly nasty things at me. One of them, looking back on it, I really should not have been surprised about, but the other caught me completely off guard.
Oh well, I'm used to this sort of stuff since I grew up in Wisconsin, but I would not have expected someone I was trying to make a professional transaction with would do stuff like that, let alone two.

'Animator' is just a profession and there are plenty of intolerant folk out there. I think it's good that this came up before you started working together, otherwise it might have been worse.

Indeed, you can find intolerant people anywhere and everywhere. I don't know why you thought animators would be different, but you know better now .

Cause I imagined people who went to the trouble to get degrees in animation would spend enough time around gays like me it wouldn't be an issue, or at least it wouldn't be enough to set you off like that. Besides, money's money. I worked at restaurants three years and I saw lots of same sex couples coming in and I never knew a server who would say "Not serving you: you're faggots (or dykes as the case may be!)" Anyway, yes, it is for the best they told me. A simple "no, not interested" would have sufficed though.

I took some animation classes and most of the people there were really into fluffy Disney stuff. They didn't much care for "artsy" stuff or other aspects of art. That doesn't mean they're bad people, but it means that you'll find all sorts of people doing all sorts of things. There are biologists who don't believe in evolution.

Also a question, did they insult you or just the gay protagonist? Did they even know you were gay?

One guessed it and was insulting me too, the other sort of conditionally insulting, meaning he went "If you're a faggot too..." Also, yeah, I haven't found anyone yet because everyone else either has a problem with it but is much more considerate to me or I just can't increase the amount offered enough to cover it.

Sometimes it seems like our social tolerance really hasn't evolved that much. What really gets me is not only when people are intolerant, but when they feel that gay people are immoral or have no right to be gay.

Aw man that sucks.
Personally I usually never draw homosexuals or anything.. I guess it's cause it's out of my own nature somehow. I don't know. I don't have anything against homosexual couples though!

I know this sounds crazy, but some of them look like straight people.

But homosexuals don't have blood but deadly corrosive acid instead and weird giant bugs crawl out of them. Of course they look different than straight people.
