Hey everybody, this is my stuff thus far (quite a large amount of stuff too, I've been doing at least one daily for several weeks now, until my pen tablet broke on Tuesday), I'd love any help or crits you can give and I hope you enjoy it. This is "Death as..." a weekly series of different variations on the traditional grim reaper. Death as a Vulture Death as a Tree Death as a Door Death as an Owl Death as a Spider Death as a Deer Death as a Scarecrow Death as a Praying Mantis Monster designs with a weekly theme: Unique locomotion Scarecrows Shadows Character designs (Yes, that's Captain Hook, as he appears in a comic book series I'm writing, I had started coloring him when my tablet broke) Just some other pictures and stuff... (Despite being draw almost a year ago, this is still one of my favorite things I've ever drawn.) My digital paintings, I'm especially open to any help on these, as I have always had trouble working with colors and light, and am a drawer more than a painter. And finally, a Sonic vs Knuckles comic I made a while ago, it was all done on paper with no editing so there are several mistakes and messy moments.

Thanks, I've been working on character designs a lot recently, mostly because I've been trying to get my comic book series written. That's a large post! Nice work. There's a spooky undertone in you work. Thanks, I love drawing dark and creepy things, it's fun. Yeah, it was a large post, it was almost everything significant I've drawn in the last year or so. A picture of Hook, twas fun to draw like this, I plan to do more like it in the future (but only on the computer, this used up so much marker ink). A sort of history of my character Lynx, not necessarily interesting to those who haven't known me and watched him change over the years.

Thank ye very much. Today's my character design day, so here's an oldish refrence sheet of Lethir, the main protagonist from my manga-turned-game-turned-book Eating Tree Another index card drawing I did this morning.

I'm kind of unmoved by the death series, to be honest. They're all a play on the grim reaper, and the grim reaper is only a very thin slice of the western interpretation of death. I like the deer though - the antlers through the eyes are a nice touch, and the noose is different (although perhaps more appropriate for the spider). There are lots of other death and dying symbols other than the traditional skull and scythe.
Try looking at death from other cultures and spin those. Yama from Hindu mythology and Anubis from Egyptian come to mind.

Are they sorted by date? The quality goes up and down. Anyhow, I like the designs and the marker work there. You need to look into color theory more though.

Yeah, I probably should, it could be really interesting. I just haven't run out of grim reaper stuff yet I guess. Are they sorted by date? The quality goes up and down. Anyhow, I like the designs and the marker work there. You need to look into color theory more though.
No, they're not in any particular order, the quality ups and downs are also probably increased because so many of the paintings are speed paintings or experimenting while some I spent lots of time planning and designing, also, I'm just not a very consistent artist. The monster design theme this week was household items (and terrible puns). My new pen tablet arrived yesterday, and while it only works on the family computer (mine sucks to much) it's still way better than my previous one, and thus these were much more enjoyable to draw than they would have been otherwise:

Death as a hill This weeks monster theme was partly parodying current trends in gaming, but still mostly serious monster design. Ever notice how all "mature" video games and movies with monsters always have either the "pale-brownish-noseless-white-eyed-humanoid-with-random-deformities" type or the spider/insect monster? Upon finishing I find that the big gray guy in the middle loses much of his intimidation factor when you realize that he appears to have a butterfly on his crotch. (Which was not intentional.)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked my stuff. No, I have yet to make any working games (unfortunately), although I have completely designed several that I hope to be able to make someday, but lack of programing skills has hindered me at every turn. I tried learning programing a couple times but I'm really bad at it so I've yet to make a fully working game. I'm currently waiting for Stencyl to come out and hoping I'll be capable of making some games with it, I'm a little to cynical to be convinced that it's going to solve all my problems, but it does look like it can do a lot. I'm going to be 21 in a couple months. Also, another drawing I did on an index card this morning, tried to get a lot of detail in it.

Yeah, I've been considering trying to get some help here as far as programing, although over the past couple years I've been mostly working on a comic/manga series which (unlike game development) I'm able to do entirely on my own, so game design, however much I obsess over it (which is a lot, especially with the recent awesomeness and wasted potential shown at E3 this year), has been pushed out of my top priorities for a while.
And are you asking what cynical means? "Having or showing the attitude or temper of a cynic: as a: contemptuously distrustful of human nature and motives <those cynical men who say that democracy cannot be honest and efficient — F. D. Roosevelt> b: based on or reflecting a belief that human conduct is motivated primarily by self-interest <a cynical ploy to cheat customers>" - Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary. I figure that stencyl looks to good to be true, so it probably is.
