I discovered Sarus yesterday, and I tried coming up with some hand signals myself (starting 10 minutes ago). I know there's another thread on this, but I didn't want to impose my idea on theirs.
You mainly use your pinky, pointer, and thumb.(I think.)
Do- extend thumb
Re- point
Mi- Pinky
Fa- thumb and pointer
So- pointer and pinky
La-thumb and pinky
Ti- thumb, pointer, and pinky (difficult, yes. Don't lift up your middle and ring fingers!)(Ok, maybe a little.)
I'd like to have these changed so that the most commonly used syllables have the easiest to make hand signs (the ones with one finger), etc.
An open hand would be a period, and a closed hand would probably be nothing, as you have to return to that after each syllable.
Also, instead of having a sign for spaces, you simply go to your other hand for the next word.
Other signs could be used for certain words, like the verb tenses, or the question word.
These might be touching a thumb to a finger (making sure that the untouched fingers are well away/straight up, to avoid confusion), holding up four fingers (all but the thumb), three fingers (all but thumb and pinky), etc, etc, and so on, and so on.
So...what do you think?
And, new idea: Instead of switching hands, you could simply move your signing hand up or down, like say at chest level, then stomach level, or right to right. This would free up a whole other hand for even more signs.
how about you shake it as a fist, like when you do rock, paper, scissors, to symbolize a separation of the words?
