Newgrounds now has an Art Portal

If an established artist likes your work, they can "scout" you, and your artworks then become public in the art portal. And you can then scout other people.

This creates long chains of artists. Trouble is, if someone higher up on the chain gets unscouted (because the staff decide that they don't like his art), all of his scouts get unscouted as well, all the way down the chain. This has happened to me twice already. I was scouted first by AnvilPinata, then by Chronamut.

So now I'm waiting to be scouted again, but I figure it'll be a long wait. There's a limit of 2 scouts/day now & there are a lot of excellent artists in the same situation.

This is ridiculous. The amount of submissions in there is actually CONTRACTING now. What's more, it won't allow me to view unscouted artists, though with the amount of talented people who've been unscouted, the quality of art is probably higher in the "unscouted" gallery than in the "real" one. They're really stifled it. I guess the moderation work was too much.

I won't be posting my latest comic there until I get scouted again, because otherwise it won't appear on the front page and I'll get no comments on it anyway.

i have a feeling that if enough people find this, we will see a fix in the next few weeks (newgrounds generally bugfixes fairly quickly). I have a feeling it will come down to a moderator going through an unscouted artists scouted list, and see whether or not they seriously need unscouting. A system closer to the audio portal may work aswell, since music and art are so simlar. i dont think a system like the flash portal would work though, due to the larger number of good submissions. I might put a few things on my gallery, however i doubt ill ever be scouted. I have no skill in drawing

The audio portal does NOT work well. For a number of reasons. But the main one is that none of the staff really take it seriously.

Well, they need to think of a better system for both the art portal and music portal now . I think that rather then automatically unscouting, the moderator should go through and unscout scounted people falling under certain criteria. The problim is it will then become labour intensive, defeating the point of an automatic portal.

The flash portal works just fine, why wouldn't it work for audio and art, as well?

The flash portal does not work brilliantly either. Although the balm system is in place, mass collective voting gets spam through. Just think about how much server space is wasted by spam submissions that will probably never be watched again. I think theyre trying to avoid the spam of the flash portal wiile also avoiding the staff review system. Its a tough problem to solve :/

guess I got caught up in the unscouted thing too haha,  I think the art portals kinda neat but some submissions in the public area certainly dont reflect what they intended lol

In part, because every single Flash submission has to get about 200 votes to pass judgment, and people get exp. points for voting, while audio submissions have no judgment period, no exp. points, and are lucky to get a few votes and one review.

Also, Flash exp. points weigh one's vote when voting for audio submissions, so the vote of someone who watches a lot of Flash but doesn't know a thing about audio counts for a lot.

All in all, when I submit to the Newgrounds Flash portal, I feel like I made something that people value. When I submit to their audio portal, I feel like "why did I even bother? There's no demand for this".

The scouts lasts forever. I've been scouted for weeks, by the same person.
