Love the Naruto painting Esp.

There are a few things on the matte that bug me though. The buttress on the far right, and the one on the far left both just don't look right to me dude. The one on the right has that bright white rimlight happening on both sides of it which to me looks like a delineated line from a cut and paste. The buttress on the left is just too crisp all the way round. I think you need to blur them on the edges just to lose that sharp contrast from foreground to background.

It's not too friggin' often I ever see something to comment on in one of your pieces man!  Fatsack

I just want to say I love the texture you added to that matte. And I'm curious, what is matte concept art anyways?

I'm glad you asked.. I call it a Matte concept art, because i used more of my own brush strokes then i use textures. Cheesy

So you see, its more of an environment piece then a matte paint.

Video game Idea!

Birkebeinerrittet is a long-distance mountain bike cycling race held annually in Norway..

For my idea, they are still in the mountains..only several meters above it.

Imagine super enhanced bikes with the ability to turn one spin from the pedals, into 50000 ( all this energy is stored into the tire catalysator, so the pedals don't retaliate on the cyclists feet )... now thats alot!

Okay I'm still confused so I googled Matte Painting. All I see is that matte painting's are literally environment scenes. I don't understand the difference between environment and matte paintings...

And what do you mean "rather than textures"? Would you use actual images to substitute your brush strokes for texture?

Yeah im not sure either, but i feel that matte paints should be 95% photo.. its sort of like an advanced environment photo manipulation. The other 5% is for effects and lighting. its a personal preference! Cheesy
whenever i use photos to add some textures here and there, i just add a little bit and try to blend my brushstrokes into the real photo.

that way i can still keep my style and bump up the quality quicker... in my field of work speed is really important...

its all about the idea and speed for me actually.

Oh I gotcha, so you put enough of your own brushstrokes into the artwork that it's hard to consider it matte in the end. That's probably the best way to go, like you said it lets you keep your style and speed up the process with high quality as well.

That's neat, it comes out really crisp.

Matte paintings are paintings that were used as backdrops in movies, in the old days they were painted and airbrushed and so on.
But most of these days they're for a large part a digital composite of digital painting, 3D Cgi and photomontage.

Matte painting = highly finished
Enviromental concept art = conceptart to serve the creation of a made up enviroment. Can be a sketch, or finished. The difference is that it's not meant to be used as a backdrop.

Man there's some phenomenal new work here Espen, extremely impressive.

I absolutely love the giant faceless painting, the contrasting blue and deep red really gives it loads of depth.

There's some benefits for going away from this forum for a little while then coming back and absorbing all the new work, but I've obviously been away much too long as I feel like I've crammed my eyes full of artistic candy, and I'm blubbering metaphorical tears of inspiration.

Keep on your pursuit to the artistic zen my friend!
