(I'll send Graz with the girl back to the home with some random healer.)
Calet, Sam and Jaggery moved quickly through the halls. Calet guiding his two followers through the confusing corridors. Calet heard panting and turned his head, seeing the shorter one move at a slower pace. Calet realized he was moving quite fast for a dwarf and slowed his pace, looking behind him to check on the little guy (Teehee.) Sam almost didn't notice the change of pace had Calet not been in front of him. He looked to the right of him to see Jaggery raise his hand to Calet as thanks.
They turned a corner quickly again, Sam and Jaggerys reflexes correcting their paths. "Was everyone in the dinning Hall?" Sam asked.
Calet didn't answer for a moment, his mind seemed to be elsewhere. His thoughts both focused on getting out of this corridor in time to save his friend. And the girl still needed to be found as well. Finally, Calet responded. "It would appear that way. I'm surprised you two were the only ones who volunteered to save the life of an Honour Guard." He said in a low tone.
"Maybe tey're too focused on rebuildin' the city." Jaggery said, his breath almost returned to him. "Good meal a' do em' good."
Calet nodded at this, he himself had not eaten since that morning; and he couldn't see himself doing so for a while. At least, untill his afairs have been sorted out.
Calet's eye caught something down the way. A red robe moved gracefully through the darkness, pronounced by the dim lighting of the candles. At once, Calet stopped, Sam and Jaggery following suit.
Calet spoke with authority. "Halt, Achten!" At once the robe stopped, seeming to glide on its own momentarily before the wearer turned. He was a young man, short brown hair sticking to his sweaty forehead. Surely a man who had just finished hard work. Calet barked another order. "Present." As a response, the man began to walk towards them.
"My apologies, sir. Is this area off limits?"
Calet stood straight, his face serious. "Not at all. I may need your help, do you know healing magic?" He asked in a kinder tone then his orders.
The mans face filled with pride and a smile lined his face. "It's my specialty, sir."
Calet nodded at once and slacked his stance some. "Name, please."
"Francis."
"Francis," Calet repeated. "come with me. Today you may very well be a hero." Calet did not know why he said that. To fill this young man with such hope and to be struck with fear and disappointment if they did not arrive in time. "Follow us."
At once, Calet moved past the man, Sam and Jaggery following right behind, they did not want to get lost in these dark corridors for they knew not where they were. Francis just stood there for a moment, observing the dwarf, before moving with them, his red robes flowing short behind him.
"The elevator should be at the end of this hallway." Calet said minutes later, pointing down the seemingly endless tunnel. Moments later they drew halfway down the hallway, a small sound emitted from the end, a tapping. Calet did not draw his gun, for he knew the pattern. He began into a jog, Jaggery groaning as the group followed suit. They reached the end in second, Calet coming to a dead stop, a exponentially pronounced grin decorating his face.
There was Graz, leaning up against the wall to the left of the elevator, one leg raised and planted on the wall, his foot tapping in an amazing act of balance. And there, on the floor in front of him, was the girl. She sat next to him, looking at the ground in a miserable fashion. Her arms hung over her legs. Her red hair, in tangled knots, landed on her shoulder. She looked up, her blue eyes swelled with happiness at the sight of more people. How lonely this Department was.
Graz looked up as well, no smile. All he did was leave his position and walk towards Calet. They greeted with a firm hug, holding each other for five seconds before parting.
"You son of a bitch." Graz swore unprofessionally. "I've been waiting for you at this elevator for hours. Remember our plan?"
Calet did, had anything happen to the palace they were to take their positions on the elevator. "Circumstances neglected my accordance to protocol." Calet responded, grinning more than he had that entire day. Then it faded once more. "Thomas is in trouble."
Graz's smile left at once, glancing at the small band that had been with him. "What form of trouble?"
"Dying."
That word drew shock across Graz's face, his eyes widening and his mouth forming into an "O". He looked at the girl, who now stood at his side. "Where is he?"
Calet at once looked away from Graz and at the girl. "He's at your fathers house." Her face grew sad as well, filling Calet with regret of the information.
"At my house?" She asked. "How did they end up at my house?"
Calet looked up at Graz. "I don't know, but he need to move quickly, he had a fractured skull. his young man has volunteered to help him." He said, turning his head towards Francis. Then looked at Sam and Jaggery: "As well as these two."
Graz looked over the group again, taking a double take at Jaggery. "Not many dwarfs in these parts." He noted.
"He's with me." Sam responded at once. "We've come a long way."
Calet immediately spoke: "We don't have much time, Thomas is dying." He walked past Graz, who grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him around. "No, Calet." His face stern. "You've been through enough today, let me take the girl home and the boy to heal Thomas."
Calet shook his head instantly. "How do I know your trials haven't been harsher then mine?" He inquired.
"I've been down here all day. I don't even know what the city looks like after the attack. You may have run right through it."
"You don't even know the way."
The girl moved forward at once, her eyes never leaving Calet's. "I do." She said.
Calet looked at her for a long time. Contemplating whether to allow such a thing, for a child to guide an Honour Guard through a destroyed city, such a sight would be fit for a painting. Finally, and without a question in his mind, Calet nodded. "Fine, Graz. Follow the girl to her home, Fan is there as well, she may be standing outside waiting for me." He turned to Francis, who stood between Sam and Jaggery. "You go with them, you're very important." At once, Francis move forward standing next to Graz and the girl.
Calet reached down to pull open the elevator door open, the creaking gears did their work opening the gate, a small wooden platform sat there, waiting for its next passengers. He looked at Graz and nodded. "Be safe, friend."
Graz walks past him onto the elevator, the girl and Francis following suit. "If we're lucky, we'll see each other by days end." He said as the gate closed.
Calet looked at him through the gate. "Just make sure you're fast." He said. Graz nodded and grabbed a rope, Calet grabbing another one on the other side. They both pulled on their ends, each pull bringing Graz and his small band more out of view. Calet held for a moment and looked to Jaggery. "Can I trouble you to grab the other rope?" He asked.
"Aye." He responded, moving to the right end of the elevator and grabbing a small piece of rope out of a box. The elevator grew much heavier, Both Jaggery and Calet almost struggling to hold it there. "Sam!" Jaggery asked through his struggle. "Can you give me a 'and here?"
Sam moved at once, grabbing his own bit of rope in front of Jaggery, they all held for a moment until the elevator grew much lighter as its crew left onto the surface."Ok, now gently let it down." Calet instructed. They did so and allowed the wooden plank to gently touch the ground.
The all let go of the rope, Jaggery rubbing his shoulders. "I tell ye'." He said sarcastically. "I can not wait for the time when stairs don't even matter."
Calet smiled lightly. "Let's go back to the dinning hall. I'm sorry to have wasted your time."
"Don't worry about it." Sam said.
At that, Calet, Sam and Jaggery walked through the halls again. This time at a slower pace to Jaggerys comfort. The whole time back, Calet had told them of the days events and even some of the previous nights.
