Prologue: Last words from the unfortunate fool In the center of the Multiverse there existed a massive monument to existence made of shining crystal; about the size of a planet...No one knows for sure who made it. Some speculate it has always been there. Some think the Titans placed it... or the Gods....or just God. Whatever its origin, it keeps things going. Sometimes it speaks to some of us...grants us wishes...it calls us The Fated.
It calls itself 'The Source'. Not even it knows where it came from! Talk about whack. For billions of years it has sat in the center of everything... every plane, every dimension, converges here! Heh...hahahahahaha..you're not gonna believe this next part. One day... the throbbing heart of the Multiverse, the infinite well that keeps all things there...shattered. Inexplicably broke. Its shards were cast about, landing everywhere. Some of them, most of them actually, were absorbed by the multiverse...that's why we haven't faded away yet!
But, only a century later, tsk, tsk... the edges are fraying. And quickly. The Multiverse is vast, it would take eons for it to vanish completely! But of course...of course...of course....there is...there is hope! Hope! For not all the shards vanished, hahaha, some of us, some of us hold them in our hands. If we rebuild what we can of the Source then we can save what's left, right? WRONG. Those who have a Source Shard gain inexplicable POWER! Some of us even become GODS... but it differs from person to person.
Some gain reign over their worlds, some merely hold magic when they touch a Source Shard. Maybe it's not the person but the shard. Iunno. In any case, my part in this is ending. I can see the edge approaching. Heh.. hahaha... my universe is DOOMED. Not a single shard landed in it, can you believe that? Probably not. Well... it seems half my house has faded and
Chapter 1: Earth...is about to get rocked. Sam slept peacefully in his room, until something smashed through his window and nearly impaled him to the bed. He pulled it out of the mattress and inspected it...a large sliver of crystal. He noted that as he extracted it from its sheathe in the mattress that it seemed to mend the damage as it came out. He also noticed the window forming back together...what the hell was going on? Hurried footsteps towards his door. He hid the crystal under his pillow as it flew open.
"Sam...? I heard glass breaking, and...huh...I must have been imagining it...could have sworn I heard a loud crash though..." His mother rubbed her temple with two fingers, long nails glinting in the incandescent light cast from the bulb in the ceiling. She left, shutting the door gently, uncertain as she made her way back to her room. He wasted no time in slipping the crystal back out. What was this thing? What did it do? He gave a light shrug and slipped it back under his pillow, he could feel it pressing against his head as he lay back to go to sleep...
The blaring of his alarm. He sat up, cursing the thing as he smashed the Snooze button and propped himself up on his elbows, wincing as he felt something dig into them from under the pillow. He reached down and pulled out that crystal that had smashed his window the night before. So it hadn't been a dream... he went through the morning motions and left the house refreshed and full, smiling as he felt a cool breeze, a temporary relief from the humid hell that this year's summer happened to be. He took a few steps down the sidewalk, whispering a merry tune, when a "BLING" in the sky caught his eye. Then, landing in front of him, in sleek, futuristic armor, was what could only be named an "Alien". It had all the stereotypical features of the little gray men that haunt our dreams and our imagination whenever we think about the great beyond. "GIVE US THE SHARD, NOW!" "...what? Shard?" His mind flashed back to the crystal. "The thing in my pocket?...and what do you mean 'us'?" Five more appeared out of thin air, decloaking around him. "...why should I?" "The Xronine (Zro-neen) grow more powerful with each one we collect. Currently we control half the known sectors in our galaxy. Give it to us and we will spare your life and let you serve us as a slave in the--" "HE MAY BE INCOMPETENT, BUT IT CHOSE HIM, NOW LEAVE HIM ALONE!" A blast went off, and eliminated three of six. "BLAST IT! We will be back." The remaining three vanished. An imposing female figure, in sleek armor similar to theirs crossed her arms and looked Sam up and down. "Hmph. An incompetent MALE. Typical of the Source. Come along, breeder." She said with as much loathing as she could muster. "Breeder? Who are you? What's the Source?" "Yes, BREEDER, it's all you damn ugly men are good for. I am Reon. And the Source was just that-the Source. The thing that powered the universe. Now come ON!" She yanked him by the wrist, a portal opening up before them.
