No color and no sound

i have a question about editing flash files in another program like after effects.

the movie symbols inside the swf don't show up in the program kind of like when you render an .avi from flash.  its a bit of a problem because the blur filter can only be applied to movie symbols and buttons.

i normally do everything in graphic symbols cause the frames play out on the main time line then i can edit the .swf directly [maintaining the sharp quality] in after effects instead of rendering a quicktime file [the lines get pixilated and the colors become desaturated]

my question is if there's anyway around the blur filter for a graphic symbol instead? [soften fill edges is a hassle]

I hope i understand you correctly here, do you mean that when you bring a swf file into AE it does not have the filter effects applied to them or the animated movieclip does not animate? (I guess it's the second)

One wee program I use sometimes is called SWFtoAVI, which allows you to render a swf file to an avi file and keep all the effects and symbol animations. It basically goes through the swf file frame by frame and converts each frome into a hi res image (or whatever res you specify) and then converts the sequence of images into an AVI file.
(I am not sur ehow it deals with action scripted special effects but I assume it should work)

The resulting avi file is pretty damn big (100s of mbs, even a gig sometimes depending on your resolution and output settings) but from what I have seen it retains the quality 99% of the time and looks sharp.
Its a free program too which is cool.

Check it out. It will allow you to retain all MC animations.

(there are plenty of swf-avi converters but this one above is the only free one)
(oh and did you get my PM Wink )

Or do the blur in after effects and use a transparent png to export, that could do the job too Smiley

it works actually and i guess i don't mind the filesize after, since i render them in pieces and just put them together in after effects.  Thanks man  and YES i got your pm its all peachy don't worry about it i'm working on my final school project so its all good timing.  no worries.

i'd tried that but it takes a bit more time cause some of the parts have 5 layers so i have to export each layer and blur each layer separately and it can get a it messy hehe. also i want the blur effects to already be in after effects. im using aftereffects to do the final effects on the animation like texture and color and particle things to it.
