Yeah, agreed. The more I draw my own stuff, the more I feel the need for further studies... Hopefully I'll get accepted into a school that would give me a decent academic foundation or at least help me get into the right direction. Sadly, I find most real life studies and stuff immensely boring though. I swear I have ADD.

FUN FACT: I've been to two art schools already, but dropped out from both of them. Lips Sealed
For those waiting for more comics, they're on their way! :-) 33/100 strips written, hoping to start drawing soon.

If you find studies boring perhaps you go about them the wrong way?

I personally have alot of fun doing studies as long as i do two things, one i am experimenting with shit, im not copying other work but i am trying to rationalise and work out things on my own from reference and based off others work, and its quick. Simply copying and doing things other guys already did is boring.

It really has less to do with copying and more with the fact I was stood there with a bunch of other students having to draw pots and plants and the occasional humanoid. It was dry and unfulfilling for me as an artist.
But taking on, say an anatomy book or some photo references and working that into original pieces, is something more gratifying and what I tend to do every once-in-awhile... maybe just not often enough.

Bottom line is, I have to pull myself together, work more, have some discipline and prioritise things better. Right now I'm occupied with a thousand projects at the same time with a sweet tooth for procrastination and that's probably not the best way to be doing things. But I'll pull through, I'm a survivor.

I had this problem for a while too, until I started thinking of drawing from life as direct practice for whatever I was drawing at the time.  Kind of like your idea of incorporating photos into drawings - if for example I need to draw an elephant character, I'll do several drawings of real elephants before switching to caricature.  Likewise, I find gesture drawing people, doing landscapes, and copying buildings way more interesting if I'm doing it as development research.  It's self-reinforcing, because doing the research beforehand often translates into better drawings.

You can also try figuring out what real subjects you find intrinsically interesting to render.  For example, I really like drawing animal skulls.  Something about their geometric simplicity, subtle textures and grooves, and different shapes make them very relaxing for me to draw.

That's because you're a morbid psychopath. :-P

Yeah, I see how you mean. I'll definitely take advantage of that once I begin drawing up the comic.
And now that the weather is back to mediocre, I might take my sketching business to the street and/or drag my friends to the zoo... Cool

Didn't make it to the streets, didn't make it to the zoo. What is up with me?!
I need to get back to drawing, I'm so rusty... Embarrassed

I did finish my portfolio, it's on Flickr for everyone to see. Let me know what you think?

No-one cares! *throws a histrionic fit*

Here's some more scribbles, and two comics for those who love 'em.
Hopefully Facebook won't mind I'm hotlinking them...

This is from the comic project I've been procrastinating on. One of the characters is an avid lover of the talk show and he's showing it to his friend for the first time. Also, they're probably high:

Anyone watch Pushing Daisies? This one's for you! It's fairly terrible though and someone has probably done it before:

Enjoy!
If you don't, I expect a refund.
