Get this. Some guy, we'll call him Joseph, is walking to work. Some guy jumps out from behind a trash can with a knife, trying to kill Joseph. We'll call the attacker Joseph 2, because they look almost identical. After a struggle, Joseph gets a hold of the knife, and is poised to kill Joseph 2. Suddenly a third man, Randy, pulls Joseph off of Joseph 2 and says that he's a policeman. Joseph says that it's not what it looks like, dropping the knife. The policeman says that he knows, and puts Joseph 2 in handcuffs. Joseph asks what's going on, and the policeman says that he's a special agent; he travels through time to prevent paradoxes. As Joseph tries to grasp all of this, he realizes something: he doesn't ever remember trying to kill his future self, so it couldn't possibly have happened. He mentions this, and the cop says that he has an answer to that. From his coat, he pulls a small taser-like device and uses it on Joseph. Joseph's memory is erased. He takes the incarcerated Joseph 2 back to his home-time, and Joseph continues with his day.

Then, in an omniscient thread, we discover that killing one's future self is a common trend among young people. They do it so that when they reach the age when they killed themselves, they have to fight off the past selves as long as they can. It's a kind of sport, essentially. Of course, if they kill their past self, they die instantly, so they have to use skill and stealth to avoid being killed. This causes paradoxes, however, and so there are squads of people like the police officer we just met that try to stop these things from happening in the first place. Beginning of an epic novel? Quite possibly.

(I just copied this from some dude's blog. It seemed kind of interesting.)

''Look alive, sunshine
109 in the sky, but the pigs won't quit
You are here with me, Dr. Death-Defying
I'll be your surgeon, your proctor, your helicopter
Pumpin' out the slaughtermatic sounds to keep you alive
A system failure for the masses
Anti-matter for the master plan
Louder than God's revolver and twice as shiny
This one's for all you rock 'n' roller's
All you crash queens and motor babies
Listen up!
The future is bulletproof
The aftermath is secondary
It's time to do it now and do it loud
Killjoys, make some noise''
