I just downloaded the free trial of Macromedia Flash MX, just to see if it would be worth the hefty purchase. It seems to be a very intricate and well made program, but I can't even make more than one frame. I click "insert" and then "frame" and it just seems to extend the length of the frame I was already working on. Any suggestions?

F5 to extend the keyframe that you are located on. F6 to repeat the same keyframe, but add stuff to it. F7 to go to a new blank keyframe. Onion skin is located here.

One more thing that might help you is the Grid. It keeps you from accidentally resizing the characters. Right click > Grid > Show Grid

Thank you so much, dude. I think I can figure the rest out as I go. Got about a third of a good size animation done since I got it. Not great, but it's a first attempt.

EDIT: Okay, I need some help. I want to have a song playing while my flash is playing. I've imported an mp3 file, but now I can't find it. How do I know if it's playing during the animation or not?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured that out, but now it won't let me upload it to newgrounds gah! I saved it as a .swf and everything but it says the file is invalid.

I haven't uploaded anything to newgrounds before so I couldn't help you in that department. I was just going to mention this though, you said you were using Macromedia Flash MX just to see if it's worth the "hefty purchase". I believe Macromedia Flash MX is a very, very old version of Flash and wouldn't want you to spend too much on a program as old as this one is. But our definition of hefty probably differs, so I'll leave it at that.

Ah. That does explain A LOT. Thanks for pointing that out, you probably saved me a lot of aggravation in the future.
