Before you say anything, yes, these are bad. But also old (by about a year). I've learnt a hell of a lot about animation since then and I'm ashamed to admit I made those....

Ok, first off:

Extinction Friction - The Penguins
Now I REALLY thought this was a good idea at the time. Penguins dying. Luckily for me, I jumped in right before newgrounds started to rain Penguin Flash. I figured this would be a good first full length flash seeing how the only difficulty would be animating the penguins once and throwing animated graphics every time necessary, along with the occasional background which is vaguely interesting.

Running time: 6 minutes. Bring a pillow.
Violence: The occasional gore.

Ned Kelly For Kids
This one could've turn out better with more time and less, less, MUCH less gradients. It was a style which I thought would've been good. Being new to the tablet, I couldn't help but animate the bullet. Made for an ACMI competition (Australian Centre of the Moving Image), this piece of crap only came runner up. Frankly, it surprised me because all the other competitor's sucked. Though when they showed mine, it was horribly laggy, so I'm going to take more initiative to converting my videos FROM swf.

Running time: 2 minutes. Bring a gag.
Violence: No blood, that's why it's FOR KIDS.

Both of those had glitches all over the place, and every time I watch them again, I find something new which makes me a little bit sad.

MUCH earlier this year, one of my teachers asked me to make an intro to our school performance. A play based on pirates. WHile I worked on it very slowly, this one came out much better.... cleaner sounds and much less glitches. There still were a lot of things wrong, but... yes. Still was very half-assed. I did learn a lot of things while making this one, one of which was better control over Swift 3D (because it's just oh so obvious which bits were 3D, even though I never had any intentions to hiding it). So here it is:

Catastrophe on the High Seas

By now, you're all probably thinking 'Lol, how crap he is compared to us, he should give up right now'. Yes, true, but in my introduction thread (where the new users go), I did admit that I had nothing to show so far, and I do have big ideas in mind for the future, including my current flash, and much more detailed, lengthier and better choreographed (along with better character designs), GrowBot. This one will take a long time though, since it's all line work (very little brush work). So... yeah.

Any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism would be useful, but any 'F**k you' comments will be disregarded. Go on.

Yeah man, no one on this forum is going to make rude comments about your work or you, for that matter. And if someone just so happens to, tell the guy named Chluaid (Adam), and the law will be laid down  Smiley.

Anyways, I watched the three videos posted above. I gotta say I'm pretty impressed by your animations. I think your biggest strength is the way you can tell the story through visualizations. Like in the Ned Kelly one the way the camera moves and the way the little nerf darts turn into raging mad beasts of demonic-like presence, it's all clever storytelling that you have a real knack for. Plus your timing is great, specifically regarding how you sync it to your music nonchalantly (except in the Penguin one where the whole thing is synced up obviously  Tongue). And an irritation I have with some flash videos is that they'll keep the camera in one position for too long just because they think the audience won't be able to tell what's going on if they move it too quickly. You frickin' zip that camera around and I love it, it adds a lot to the animation. Keeps up the high paced feel of the story. And the little vibration you used on the camera in the pirates one...I'm telling you, this stuff isn't crap. You're using all these good little techniques that are executed very well.

I've learnt a hell of a lot about animation since then and I'm ashamed to admit I made those....

If this is true, I highly anticipate anything new you will come out with. Great work man, keep it up.  ^^

Oh, sweet as, people actually like it.

I say that because I was coming to a brackenwood forum, and, you know, brackenwood. That I'd have to step up my game to be noticed.

Anywho, thanks for the comments, and thanks snowman for pointing out my strong points. Hopefully you'll see some much better things from me pretty soon.

I'd hate to double post but it's the only way it'll get attention to new material.

Extinction Friction - Swine Flu
I APOLOGISE FOR THE WATERMARK TEXT BUT THIS IS THE ONLY FILE THAT EXISTS
This was one of the many flashes I began this year and gave up. Sadly, this is the only version and the only flash from this year that hasn't been totally wiped from existance.

When the swine flu pandemic was very popular and everyone at school was talking about it (and everyone was pissed that everyone was talking about it), I decided to make a sequel to my penguin flash, which instead of penguins dropping dead to some music, you guessed it, HUMANS dropping dead! Why not pigs? I don't know!

Basically the plot was that at a pig farm, a fat piggy had a little cold, and while discussing it with a friend, they are interupted by a very pale and very annoying pig who has been infected with bird flu. The flash ends there, because that's where not only I lost interest, but everybody I knew lost interest in swine flu. As it would've continued, after a chase scene, the bird flu pig tackles the swine flu pig and sneezes on him, giving him a dangerous combination. The farmer eventually threatens the pig with the new infection to kill him and eat him, but he quickly sneezes on the farmer, making the farmer instantly sick, so he visits the doctor in the centre of town. After leaving the doctors office, the music begins and he begins to die, emitting a pink gas, AKA, swine flu. As the gas passes through town, all the humans die to the music. Once they all die, we revisit the pig farm, where we see the pig with bird flu gradually being lowered into an automatic meat grinder, while the other two discuss how badly 2 diseases can take down an entire civilisation. Oh, and it'll have plenty of crude jokes in between.

So, yes, that's what would've been only if I had been faster and more motivated. I've got other plans for the Extinction Friction series but they won't take off any time soon.

So, enjoy!

This is your animation thread, I wouldn't worry too much about that in here.

Anyway I watched the swine flu progress you have. Once again I have to say I love the swift movements you let the camera make. I guess the one thing I'd mention about this one is that the slow motion scene seemed to drag on a little bit too long. If you're going to try to conclude this animation I'd suggest cutting that part down slightly. But I love the start you have there, good work.

That's actually the bit where I lost total motivation. As soon as I started that, I could see how many things were wrong with it. Although, I did want a gradual transition to an extremely high angle shot so I kept on going through with it.

Since I'm capped, I can't watch the video, so I don't know for sure what was in it, but I remember that when I animated it, I got up to adding the 3 pigs in, all running and... well, it was alright looking, but the legs were disgusting. I'm pretty sure the version you guys saw only had the white pig.

Also, the art style was suppose to be 'dirty' and 'sketchy', although I do agree that I could've made the humans look a bit better.

BONK

^^like, click it^^

Uh... I got bored the other day and started making this, and I'd add on to it every now and then.

100% mouse. My god, it's like I vomited sparks everywhere, can't do anything else (although it is attemped).

Don't pause, because it's 95% movie clips. And filters.

http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/270210/61973_Banana_Man_Game_Test.php

Something I was working on a bit earlier this year. It was an idea for a game, where to kill enemies, you type any noun you could think of and he'll morph into it, killing the enemies if possible.

But because there was too much lines of code per word (I worry about loading time... adding each word is impossibly easy) and in the 'final' version, there was a terrible glitch, I gave up on it.

Also, the morphing would look tonnes better but I was using half-mouse and half-laptop touch pad. Hopefully when my tablet works properly, I'll make a few test morphs with motion and that....

A little english project for school

We have to choose a prompt and discuss it visually and creatively. Mine is 'The problem is not power itself, but with those who wield it'. I guess it's going to be a bit more comical than anything.

Feedback would be nice, since this thread is nearly deserted.

WOOO! 5th CONSECUTIVE POST!!! Oh, and this is the finished english project, I guess

For the love of god someone say something in here. I'd hate to make an entirely new thread for every flash that falls off my desk.

I totally watched all of those animations previously but never commented on them, heh.

Anyway the sparks and random effects one was pretty sweet, always love watching a rough swf of effects work.  Smiley

The Banana Man one was neat. I can see how it could be a lot better though, and clearly you've realized this as well by what you said. It would be a neat game, kind of like one of those typing games to build typing skill and speed.

I thought the project you did was really great. One crit (if it even matters at this point) was that I wanted some of the lines you used to be different. I guess the wording was just unappealing to me. If you want to change it, you can message me about what I mean and I'll tell you specifically what I'm getting at. But the speed of the animation seemed to move pretty fluently, a little slow on some of the final lines (the beginning had a quick pace, which was perfect). Cool video.

Hurrah! Someone other than me!

I think I understand what you mean about the text, that the wording was a little boring. I didn't want to overwrite it though, because I wanted it simple to read and easy to understand, so anybody rushing to read it wouldn't have to read it twice. Also, seeing how before I finished this, some classmates had a bit of difficulty reading the start, I realised I had to slow things down a fair bit, which is why things seem to gradually get slow towards the end.

Even only my class wasn't full of dumbasses but oh well.

Oh, and you can leave crit in here. Be as violent as you need.
