I hope this doesn't already exist and is in the right place here.
Post music that helps you to be creative. That paints stories in your head, creates worlds and characters and fills them with life.
Personally, I prefer music without lyrics, as they tend to distract me or give the song a certain direction so that I can't think abstractly while listening to it.

I like listening to soundtracks (as long as they aren't from movies I've seen a hundred times like the Lord of the Rings because in that case I won't be able to think anything else than... well, Lord of the Rings).
The Master & Commander soundtrack is pretty good for me, as it's both dark and light orchestral music.
Also, Yann Tiersen, of course (http://bbs.ogo.ru/~eagle/albums/tiersen05/01._Western.mp3 / http://www.indiemuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/18%20Summer%2078%20%28Instrumental%29.mp3).

Great topic!

Some I'm thinking of...

Porcupine Tree - Waiting meditative
Yasunori Mitsuda - Drowning Valley peculiar, mysterious
Nobuo Uematsu - Find your Way eerie
Oceansize - Women who love men who love drugs psychedelic
Wim Mertens - Struggle for Pleasure

Glad you like the topic :]

Yesterday I have, uh... completely legally downloaded the soundtracks for Good Bye Lenin! and Amélie (both by Yann Tiersen), and while I can't even remember the movies anymore, the inspirational value of the music is fantastic. I can just sit back, close my eyes and let the sounds create stories in my imagination. Definitely recommended.

If you don't want lyrics I suggest the genre of Post-rock(Crescendo core as my brother calls it) Bands like Explosions in the Sky and God is an Astronaught are prominant names to help you identiy the general concecus of the genre's definition, but they're hardly the best in my books.

Grails have a 2011 release, Deep Politics.

Awesome Psychedelic from Colour Haze

A personal favourite is BT's This Binary Universe. This guy isn't very good all around but but this album is amazing. A bit more to the electronic side of things.

Menomena did an album called Under an Hour which consisted of three almost 20 minute tracks. I do suggest trying that one too Cheesy

But finally I want to post about the most inspirational album I have found yet, mostly because of the lyrics. You will throw out your Arcade Fire cd's after hearing the album "Hunger and Thirst." The lyrics and composition is amazing, so much maturity for sixteen youths.
This track is actually off the recent EP, but it summarises the album, like a teaser.
