"Looks like another rainy night here folks. It's coming down hard and visibility is down to about 20 feet so stay off the roads." The guard laughed at the voice of the radio announcer. No one would be driving at night if the sky was clear and there was a full moon. Innova City shut down after dark, at night the mag gangs would have a few drinks and decide to race eachother to the other side of the city, it just wasn't safe to drive after dark. The guard continued to listen to the announcer about the latest in a string of disappearances without really taking in much of it. The dull hammering of the rain on the gatehouse and a long night on the job combined to make him very drowsy. Slowly, his eyes drooped and he nodded off to sleep. The figure waiting just out of sight of the guard took advantage of this moment. He took a run at the exit and leaped clean over the gatehouse as if it were a meter high hurdle at the track meet. Without slowing down and without a backward glance, the figure took off into the cold, rainy night. A few minutes later the radio announcer went quiet as a call from one of the other guards on duty came in. The guard in the gatehouse became instantly awake, it was obviously a practiced reaction. "Pat, this is Ryan, we've got a break-out." Pat sat shocked for a moment before replying "I saw a van go by maybe ten minutes ago, think they might've had anything to do with it?" He of course had seen no such thing, this was standard code for "I've been asleep for ten minutes, help me out." The radio crackled as Ryan sighed into it "No, he definitley got out on his own, he knocked out three men before making a run for it, you probably wouldn't have seen him anyway with the rain." "I'll send out the seekers" Pat said pushing a few buttons on the panel in front of him. At least a dozen black shapes flew off into the night.
Heavy breathing could be heard under the figure's hood as he raced down the sidewalk. Bandages wound around his left arm and covered most of one side of his face, though there was no sign of any injury. He swerved to avoid a group of people swaying in the other direction, obviously a mag gang. "Run Forrest run!" He heard one of them call after him, he didn't know who Forrest was and didn't care. All he cared about was getting as far away from that place, as fast as he could. As he rounded a corner, he saw something swoop over him and land on a nearby rooftop. He gave no indication that he'd noticed the seeker, he just kept running. There would be more soon, and they needn't know they had been spotted. More of them began to follow him as he wound through the alleys and backstreets of the city. They were toying with him, he knew it. He had heard about the seekers, they were only called in when someone, at all costs, needed to be caught. That was why he didn't like the fact that they had kept the chase up for so long, or why they hadn't moved in closer. He wondered if they were trying to lead him into something, and then he wondered if it might just be better to turn around and run into them.
