I think the last time I read Adam's collection of scary stories was a year ago. Just recently read them all again and was re-amazed, I absolutely love them. And all true stories which makes it all the spookier

. I want to read more though, so I figured I'd post this and see if anyone has any true stories that have an eerie nature that they can share here, sort of in the short story format that Adam used.
My life has been pretty dull as far as scary true events, but I remember one creepy night when I was maybe 4-6 years old.
My father just got posted to Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska so we had just moved into this new house on base. Naturally new houses have all these different creaks and sounds to them that just take time to get used to, so eventually I was pretty comfortable with the house, except one particular feature. My room was at the end of a hallway, and at the other end was the dining room on one side and the kitchen on the other. But right before the hallway ended there was a wooden staircase that led down into the basement. This basement bothered me; the staircase itself seemed way too narrow leading down into it, each and every stair creaked and groaned abnormally loud, and the basement itself was a simple square shape that had all the Sheetrock ripped off and dusty plastic sheets that hung from its ceiling to the floor. I avoided going down there alone.
One night I was in my bed sleeping when I awoke to the sound of one of those stairs creak. I thought it was my mother or father, but wasn't sure what they were up to late at night. I probably lay there for another 20 minutes and didn't hear anything else. My mouth felt dry so I got up and tip-toed out to the hallway on my way to the kitchen for a glass of water. Slowly I approached those basement steps, walking as lightly as I could. I peered down into the basement and saw nothing down there but blackness. I stopped and stared into that black gaping hole until I was sure there was nothing down there. After filling up my glass in the kitchen I drank most of the water and began creeping back to my room. Instinctively I looked down into the basement as I passed by, and froze. A man walked slowly from left to right past the door frame at the bottom. And he stared at me with these terrifying, gaping eyes the whole way. A chill ran up my spine and I bolted straight to my room and hid under the sheets of my bed.
I remember that so vividly I got chills just writing about it. I always thought it was the ghost of an Airman that lived in the house before we did. Never did look up who used to live there and if they died while living there, so I'll probably never know if that's true or if it's just a child's mind playing tricks.
