I just got a gig, and I am wondering on how much to charge... its an animated music video for a 3 minute long song, I may include some live action but will try to concentrate on flash animation. He wants something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_7eEY_9bg8

If any of you can help me out on how to work the price, I will be very grateful!

Let's say you work 40 hours a week. That's 160 hours a month. Let's say your monthly expenses (rent, food, bills, etc.) come out to $2000. Add 20% or so (for savings and whatnot) and we get $2400. Now divide that by the 160 hours and you'll find that your hourly rate is $15.

(monthly expenses + 20%) / monthly work hours = hourly rate

Remember to be realistic. If you don't usually have 40 hours worth of work each week, your rates will need to be higher to compensate. You can also try asking other freelancers in your area about their hourly rates by pretending you're a potential client. And you might need to charge less than you'd like to, until you get enough work coming in.

No problem. I had a hard time figuring it out myself.
