In a town in the woods at the top of a hill...

« on: March 11, 2010, 02:52:10 AM »

I'm running out of time - and patience - with an assignment I'm working on for school. I'm finishing up this cartoon I've been makin and adding the sounds. Problem is they're playing way ahead of time. It doesn't matter if I have them set to Event or Stream. The only sound that plays on time is the very first one that is in the second scene. All the others are playing way too early.

Anyone know what's causing this?

audio in Flash is indeed a temperamental bitch. There are a few things that will lessen the chances of it going wrong though.

1. First and foremost, try to avoid importing audio that is already compressed, for example mp3. Things often start screwing up when Flash applies its own compression settings to something that's already compressed. If you only have mp3 though, see #2.

2. If your audio is playing too early or behaving in an unexpected way, turn up the quality. Check the Publish Settings > Flash tab. The defaul for Event & Streaming audio is 16kbps. This quite frankly is shit quality. I ALWAYS put the quality up to max (160kbps). The higher the quality, the more accurately it'll be split into frames and play in sync at run time.

Hope this helps, though I'm pretty late in answering here so your assignment may be long over by now.

It is, but I worked it out. When I exported to video the sound was fine.

Thanks for the tips, it's good to finally know what's been causing these problems.

Another thing you should remember is to put an empty keyframe right after your sound on the timeline, otherwise it might be unpredictable later.
