I think it looks amazing.

http://63koval.livejournal.com/255767.html

...no, I don't know why the first trailer that was released is a Russian one.

Translation of the text:

In life, there are just a few things that are worth doing
but sometimes the world is not ready to receive
that, which we are able to offer it.
This story tells of the journey of one man
which enabled him to keep his magical gift
and to rediscover for himself
what is worth doing for him in life.
From the director of that masterpiece of European animation,
"The Triplets of Belleville", Sylvain Chomet.
Based on a screenplay by the legendary Jacques Tati.

I thought the animations and drawings of that were amazing. Although cartoons aren't done anymore (It's either CGI or the real thing) they are still getting better with each one. I wish Disney would ditch this whole "Teenage pop sensation" dream and go back to what they were.

Looking at the trailer I'm wondering why they decided to tell that particular story in animation. It looks really nice though, and I loved "Triplets of Belleville" just as much as the rest of the world, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

What do you mean "aren't done any more"? There seem to be more of them than ever...

elephant, I think there were several reasons for doing this in animation.

First of all, the main character is Jacques Tati himself, and his relatives didn't want him to be played by any other actor.

Second of all, I understand that not all of the actors in the film are "human". There's apparently a rabbit who steals the show, just like the dog stole the show in "Triplets".

I saw this trailer the other day too, looks beautiful and I if thats reflected in the story I cant wait. I havent seen the Triplets of Belville yet but am now on the lookout, some films you never hear of like Cat's Don't Dance. I didn't even know that The Triplets lost to Nemo for best animated feature.

I haven't heard of any actual cartoons done recently. Please, tell me of some.

How recent are we talking? Two mainstream ones that come to mind are The Princess and the Frog and Ponyo, Fantasic mr fox was fantastic( not hand drawn but not cgi either and done old school iv heard)

Ok... first, to make sure we're on the same wavelength, what's your definition of "cartoon"?

There is a ton of stuff being done you just have to know the right places to look.
here is some stuff

-this one I really want to watch

http://www.thesecretofkells.com/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485601/

-I was never really that interested in this and I dont know much about it but
http://www.sonypictures.com/classics/persepolis/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808417/

And as was mentioned before
Ponyo
and
The princess and the frog.

Some a bit older but fairly recent
Howles moving castle - a personal favorite
Spirited away
Spirit - Not my kind of movie at all
and many more

Also somewhere I read on this very forum about a very strange looking animation
though i remember no details of it.

Well, okay. How recent do you want?

TheGrayK mentioned some. (btw, "Persepolis" is a fantastic film. It should've won the Oscar that year over Ratatouille)

Another fantastic one is "Sita Sings the Blues" (Google it, you can view it for free online).

Paul Fierlinger's My Dog Tulip (animated by one person, like "Sita Sings the Blues")

"Technotise: Edit and I" from Serbia is an amazing recent release (hard to find, though).

This one from Russia is pretty good, I think:
The Tale of Soldier Fedot, the Daring Fellow (2008) (or watch it here)

Do you mean just feature films? There are very many short films being done in traditional animation...

I mean full length films, like what Disney used to do before Toy Story. Princess and the frog was released last year I know that; but it's the only one I've seen from then in the past decade.

Yeah, the ones I mentioned are full-length films. Check them out, you might like them. "Sita" and "Soldier Fedot" can even be viewed online for free.

"Waltz with Bashir" is another one. Though it's an animated war documentary.

"The Secret of kells" is a feature length film aswell
and if im not mistaken
there have been several Miyazaki films within the last decade some of which I know are Disney films
"Spirit" was also released within this decade.
"Home on the range" was released by Disney in 2004.

Edit: I hate missing things that are so blatantly obvious ha ha (I did a little research and found these)

"Lilo and stitch" was released by Disney in 2002

"Treasure Planet" (one of my all-time favorite movies) released by disney in 2002

"Titan A.E." was done in 2000 (it was an ok movie)

"Brother Bear" another disney title released in 2003

"Osmosis jones" 2001

A slew of Marvel and DC movies Most recently "Hulk vs Thor and Wolverine" and "Planet Hulk"

Oh and two that are easy to over look
"The simpsons movie" and "Spongebob the movie"

Like I said Several animations have been released just got to know how or where to look.
