My foot: apply directly to your forehead!

« on: May 08, 2010, 05:28:05 PM »

warning. some language.

this is the first chapter of a story I'm writing...the rough draft anyway. it needs MANY improvements. I can tell.

Prologue:
Welcome to Aruzak, a world different, yet the same, as our own. Here, some things we believe to be myths come alive. Vampires, Were-Wolves, Elves, Arudi, and Humans are the dominant species here, where they weren't driven to the shadows by being hunted to near-extinction. In fact, there is a nation blanketed by shadows, eternal night. That nation is Marzos. In additon to Marzos, the other Major nations on the world are Yareth, Parthene, and Arigi. Unfortunately, many years ago, war broke out between the countries, but we'll get to that later.

The gods. The deities the people worship and pray to, they are important to the planet. In fact, they are so important that there are countries that favor a certain god over the others. Parthene's patron god was the fire god Turatth, who was said to have buried his children in its soil, giving way to volcanoes that are said to be the embodiment of Turatth's sorrow, and the Dragonlung Mountains are said to be where his children's graves are. yareth, whose patron god is the earth god Garrilei, who converted the whole country into a desert on the surface, with a vast underground. It is said that he created the Path of the Lost, where travellers are forever lost to the sands if they make a single wrong turn. Tha vast forest of Arigi is home to the goddess of the winds and of prophecy, Arzierel. Not much else is known about that country, since they are very secretive, and somehow are able to move the island that the country is situated on. Marzos is the dark country, literaly. The whole country is covered in a shield of eternal night, set there by the godess Umbaris to protect her creations. (will work on this part LATER)

Chapter 1.

The leaves on the trees rustled as the wind blew and rain fell. There was night everywhere, despite it being around 8:00 AM. The darkness was shattered by a flash of lightning, revealing a small figure on it's knees in the middle of a clearing. A second flash and a roll of thunder revealed the silhouettes of various hooded figures, circled around the figure. Torches lit up around the circle, shedding light on the robed beings and the figure, a young girl who looked no older than seventeen. One of the men in robes walked forward, toward the girl. He started cackling madly, his laugh sounded like a man who had seen many battles and was corrupted by the blood he shed. A total madman. The girl looked up, she was covered in scratches and bruises, her dark green eyes had the look of someone whose soul had been broken. Suddenly, the eyes showed defiance, her lips curved into a mocking smirk, "fuck you." she said to no one in particular, the man chuckled slightly and kicked her in the ribs, causing her to keel over.
"You know, you put up quite a fight for a little girl. Especially a little girl who is the disgusting result of an elven whore committing bestiality with a filthy were-wolf." the man who was laughing previously uttered in annoyance.
The girl got back up, "You fucking monster. I wish you were dead. Dead like those cronies you sent after me. Dead...dead like the rest of my family." she uttered before the man kicked her down again, harder. She whimpered slightly as she hit the ground.
"HA! You think you could kill me, Drelza? I, who was blessed by the living god himself!" The man bellowed, he started laughing again, sending echoes throughout the forest. "You are in the way of our cleansing. YOU are why your parents are dead. Not only are you a GodKind, you are a mutt too! The two tings the world could do without! Those "gods" of yours? BAH! They have NO power compared to him! He can control air, sea, fire, earth and The GodBurner! And I will be the one to help him. Can you imagine it..."King Magil, the first king of New Mausia". That title will be mine. But first, you mutts are putting filth into the world, which must be pure for him to rise up to a greater level and make me a king!"
Drelza got up on her hands and knees she spat up blood and tried to stand up. She fell back on her knees. She stared up at the man who was babbling madly in front of her. Magil removed his hood and stared into her eyes as if he was trying to break her mind, try to make her submit. He then slapped her, producing an audible hit. She fell to the ground with a thud. Then she heard screaming, and right next to her face landed Magil, with blood trickling out of his mouth and a gash in his neck. the torches stared to go out, though it didn't matter. The world was already starting to go black, the last thing she hears is a sickening cracking sound from somewhere behind her. Then, silent blackness.

The halls were silent, save for the beep of the various life-support machines keeping beings alive. This was the medical wing, with white walls everywhere. This is why he looked so out of place, a man of around early twenties to very late teens. with silver hair dressed in shades of black and grey, various little red spots peppered his clothing. He was sitting on a couch, reading a book. Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming toward him. He glanced back to see a woma in medic's clothing sstanding behind him.
"So, I assume another mission accomplished, Runose?" She asked, the young man sighed.
"Yeah...but, it was way too easy. I have no idea why the boss wanted me to save the girl, but it must be important if he wants her safe. I mean, The Shadows of The Goddess isn't made to solve kidnappings or as a foster agency. It's a branch of the military, yet acts independently. We are assassins, not babysitters. Hell, Rena, even your MedCorps need assassin training." Runose explained, going back to his book.
"Runose...I suggest you read the file."
"What?"
"You head me, read the file."
Runose sighs and puts down his book, Rena hands her a manilla folder. He opened it, scanning over the information. His face immediately changed from a calm, emotionless face to a surprised look.
"No...no way. I'm not taking care of her. I'm not taking her in. I'm not a fucking babysitter! I'm an assassin! I'm made to kill people, not to take care of children!" Runose closes the file and mumbles someting under his breath.
"Run, you do realize that if you don't do this, you get no pay, right?"
"Wait...wait?!"
"Boss's orders, not mine."
Runose sighs, "Fine. I'll take care of her. Now, where is she?"
"Down the hall, third to last room on the left." Rena answered.
"Thanks."

Drelza opened her eyes for the first time in hours, the first thing she saw was a white ceiling. She felt like a spike had been driven into her brain, but felt fine otherwise. She sees movement out of the corner of her eye and turns her head. There was a young man with silver hair sitting in a chair, looking at a folder. "You're awake. So, the advanced healing I heard elves have is true. Let's see; Drelza Rensia, age 15. Mother, Marta Rensia an elf,, recently deceased. Father, Leonard Rensia, a were-wolf, also recently deceased. You have no health problems, are in peak physical condition. Well well, lucky you; you're one of the targets of a twisted cult because you're a GodKind or something. I have no idea what that is." He stated, he closed the file and looked up at the ceiling, sighing.
“Excuse me sir, but who the hell are you, why do you have a file on me, why am I here, and why are you here?” she asked in annoyance.
“I’m Runose Sylo Blackwing. Unfortunately for me, you’re in my care now. You were rescued by me and taken to the medical wing of the Shadows of The Godess.”
“What?” she looked at him confused and annoyed.
“You heard me. Now get dressed. I have to take you home ASAP according to the boss.” Runose dropped a bag on her bed, got up, and walked out, closing the door behind him. Leaving Drelza sitting there confused as to what had just happened.

Chapter finished. could someone please give me tips on how exactly to improve it now? Because I can already tell it needs them. I just don't know what exactly.
