Double post for bump. Just so everyone knows this upcoming short was created using only Free Open-Source software.* Every piece of this production is being released under a creative commons license!
*Except for the music they outsourced that.

Wow, awesomeness. Beautiful graphics and animation and hopefully the story will be as good. It looks promising. Blender is a great software, but it's hard to learn. I've tried it lots of times and never mastered it. I will definitely look forward to this. Thanks!

Well as many around here Know I'm a blender fanatic and have created a really useful Blender 2.49 tutorial-esque thread. Blender really starts to make a lot of sense after a while and 2.5 has become incredibly more user friendly. I hope you check it out. =)

Thanks! I'll check it out! I'm about to try 3D Studio Max though, because I will eventually study it for three years

Wonderful! I'm going to go share it with seventy people on Facebook this minute.
Hey, would it be cool if we showed this on our local University Television? We have an audience of about 2,000 people for what that would be worth.

Well I have nothing to do with Durian other than being a fan. But yeah you can show it. it is released with a creative commons license so it free to share here is the license the last Blender open movie was released with. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Oh wow - It's very beautiful. Great story with lots of heartwrenching. I've always had a soft spot for dragons.

I don't have any animations yet, but I have ideas. I also have Flash and Toon Boom - so, we'll see what happens with that.

I agree! I'm a bit saddened by the lack of attention this thread is getting but things have slowed down quite a bit.

That was great, I like their DOF macro shots. Do you know what they used for post?

Yeah Ive only just started messing with DOF in blender its really tricky and they used the blender sequence editor. They restricted themselves to only using Free Open Source software.

Lol I was just looking it up, I didn't know blender had a compositer part as well, pretty cool. I was thinking they can't get it to look sooo right just through render.
I dare say they probably would have done lens effects in the compositor instead of through render to save time. Export a Z depth pass and use that for blurring maybe.

the compositer works really well in blender and is used pre-render but you pretty much got it.
