ill try to get some colouring stuff done by the weekend

here are some of the better faces i did, there are surely some mistakes on the necks(especially on the left guy) since i concentrated on the faces and im quite sure even there are many many mistakes

Is it encouraged that you shade your drawings?
From my oppinion you should only shade something when you get the time to do it right, otherwise it'll only detract from the linework.
It's better to use that time to get more accurate proportions, redraw problem areas etc. I think you can learn allot by just limiting yourself to linework, since you really need to put emphasis on what's important. I used to waste lots of time shading, it can make your drawings look pretty, but in the end you're just polishing a turd, and no matter how much you polish a turd, it's still a turd. NOT TO SAY that your drawings are turds offcourse  Tongue

I think the lines are still a bit too scratchy, you should try to get nice flowing lines. Look at some old master sketches, they usually have very nice delicate lines.
How do you start your drawings? Do you start working at one point and working outwards or do you start with the major proportions?

This is comming from someone who never had a lifedrawing class, so feel free to tell me I'm wrong.

pwahaha dont hold back telling me such stuff...
well actually im not limited to do anything, i could also just sit there and watch the model hehe but that would be weird...
no, honestly the teacher teaches me a bit about composition, the flow of the figure and some issues on proportion and foreshortening but not that much he lets us scetch freely...
i think youre right with the shading on a turd!!!i definately aggree
and im very awayre that my outlines are far away being right proportionally and the line flow as you stated is quite insecure and scratchy rather than smooth and forming...maybe a lack of practice or maybe coz i want told before...ill try to work on that...it may be also that the size is unusual big for me since its din A2

well how do i wirk, first i look at the model, try to figure out some basic shape the figure fits in like a square, a triangle or a trapeze...then measure the sides of that trapece, and then i work out the body with very thin lines, a bit scetchy to have a variety of strokes wich later on i can choose the best line of to redraw with stronger and darker lines...to me i only shade in the last 2 minutes  and then only to form out the volumes, make it readable...i somehow have a problem seeing the lineart as a figure...i have the feeling i can spot mistakes better if i shaded the most important parts on the figure a bit
well i actually try to work on the lineart till i think its good enough for the amount of time that i have and then add some dimensionality...

big thanks for your critical comment man! i can learn more from those opinions than you might think so dont hold back just posting your thoughts to the stuff i upped either bad or good ^^

great anatomy works your doing here. I find that even after studying humans you can always seem to come into problems. Ive been trying to study anatomy for like 3 years now. Its a great thing to start working at as soon as possible so really try and keep all the things you study in mind!

I like that baby drawing  Grin

Watch the proportions on your arms and legs, they have some freaky lenghts sometimes.

http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/2620/imgp3454qp3.jpg
Here the thigh is as long as the entire arm.

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3852/imgp3453cd0.jpg
Here the arms look too short

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/175/imgp3449pa9.jpg
Shinbone is really long here

The heads also look rather tiny, could be the model...

oh crap...i should look at my stuff more intensely to see that, now that u mention it i totally agree unfortunately i cant review the pose to check what exactly i did wrong....

as for the heads...could be the model...but its me...i didnt really measure from the start i just drew somehow...should get into the habit of measuring everything out again...damn...since i started to learn from the 8 head form i tend to draw the head really small since the model was approximately 6 heads tall or even less...

you have to think of so much while drawing...its frightening...not only the flow, composition and rythm, also those anatomic issues, foreshortening, light, weight and balance, volume...it just sometimes get too much and i sit in front of the paper not knowing how i should start....but practice should help erasing that...i hope.

thanks alot for your crit man!

wooooaaaa look at those anatomy drawings ... damn son imprint those proportions into your mind. Imprint the places the body has those weird curves that come in and stop. If you get those down i could really see you busting out some sweet characters in the future. Where you going to school at?

heheee, thanks so much raven....i have even more, this is already a selection ^^ have like three times more
yeah i really need to imprint all those fomulas, volumes, curves and so on in my mind but to do it i must continue drawing many many many many more of those anatomy things
erm which schools i go to? its no real art school, those are several courses by different people, mostly artists themselves, either in some gallery or some studio
those are quite expensive but its totally worth it^^

your stuff is coming out awesome too man, your landscapes are getting fantastic, keep at it too!!!!
im always looking at your stuff but mostly too busy to leave a comment since im only lurking the forum while im taking some break^^
