I watched this movie last night.

Really really loved it. A nice refreshing tale and gorgeoes animation and compositions.

I hired it out when it came on dvd, I loved the style. However not knowing too much about the history and such I didn't really understand the ending much unless it was just me.

I have to see this. This movie is what I feel animated movies are all about.
Creating beautiful pictures in unique styles and putting them in motion to tell a story.

This was a wonderful movie. The narrative wasn't the most important element, but I think it is much more rewarding when you have a grasp of the historical setting. The appearance is stunning. Also, here is a blog from the film's creator that has some bits of production info and other things that people may find interesting:
