WDA# 026 The Giant

Espen & Dazla are rather busy at the moment so I am helping out for the meanwhile. If you have any ideas for the next or any upcoming WDA's send me a PM please as I am sure I will run out of ideas

The pictures format can maximum be 1000x1000 or less.
when the deadline is over, a vote will be raised , for you to vote for your favorite entry, I'm not the judge here, everyone is.

These things need to be included, to get into the vote.
1) A giant of any description (humanoid, fish, bird, whatever)
2) A background (doesn't need to be complex) which shows the sort of area the giant lives in.

I know it is rather not much to go on, but that is because I dont want to limit your imagination in any way, make a concept and run with it!

Have one post for your entry, don't post a new picture in new a post, edit your old post with the update.CLEARLY DESIGNATE YOUR FINAL.

Please save your entry as, for example. "giant_wda24.jpg"don't use old drawings, and use more then 15 minutes on the picture..

And with that I'm telling you to have fun, and get inspired to create the best illustration you can!

1000x1000 huh? I'd better increase the maximum embedded image width to 1000px otherwise the forum scales them down to 900

Well here's my first ever try at a WDA.



I'm using Corel painter, which I'm not too experienced with.

It's a Deep Sea Giant. Hope you like it!

This is a snub question, but after blocking, I can't figure out how to blend colors. Is there a tool that mixes two together? I'm using PS CS3, and have never used PS before, so I'm trying to figure this all out.

there are many many techniques to blend or render...
hmm first you block the main colours, then you add darks, then lights, then highlights
and then you blend the soft edges,
best for that is using a round brush with soft edges and low opacity...
if you use a tablet you can use the "opacity jitter" put to "pen pressure"..that helps alot
or whats also good to render is a grundy textured brush, maybe sometimes spackled brushes help too
its up to you, you have to try what suits best for what you are aiming for,
but for the beginning id recommend a soft-edged round brush with opacity at 30-50%,
if you use opacity jitter, than an opacity of 60-80% brings good results...

i hope you know what i meant with that ^^, if not just ask!

I Didnt do the best job blocking this one in from the start, so I'm sure my values are off when considering my light sources. I'm as I work on my setting, i'll do a little bit better on blocking.

looks nice man! a bit flat still but im sure if you work on it more itll come out great

so whens the deadline actually, 25th june it says but timezones are a nasty little bunch of...well enough of that but i just wanna know how much time left to hand my entry in ^^

Ill generally do it at the end of the 25th for me, or at the 26th, since Im living in the future to you all It's the 25th now, in the morning, so that should give you some idea
