This definitely belongs in the cage with a title like that.
personally the PS3 could recieve an update that only let it play PS games and I'd still choose it over an Xbox.
I'm not a fan boy or anything I just hate the Xbox.

I'm glad sony made the move It shows they care about their customers.
Sony unlike some money hungry jerk offs (microsoft) would rather shutdown a large source of income to protect the Identities of their users than keep up the network and risk more attacks.

I can see this quickly turning into a cage topic.

Sony unlike some money hungry jerk offs (microsoft) would rather shutdown a large source of income to protect the Identities of their users than keep up the network and risk more attacks.

1) Give me one example where that is true, where Microsoft has let user's private information be stolen for monetary gain.
2) The Playstation Network is free, they gain money by shutting down the servers. The only monetary loss is from purchasing DLC and games which a large chunk of the money doesn't even go to sony.
3) If sony really cared about their customers.
It shows they care about their customers.
Why remove a feature then when their customers they care about so much hack it back in, sue them? Which is what brought on the DoS attacks in the first place, Sony believed when you bought their console that it still belonged to them and you weren't allowed to do whatever you want with it.

1)Sorry for Being unclear I wasn't trying to say that microsoft would let that happen only that I thought it could. I do however know of many Instances when friends xbox's breakdown clearly evident to faulty manufacturing and microsoft charges almost the exact price of a brand new xbox for repairs.
2.)There is also a paid version of the PSN which I myself and many others use.
3.)The Hackers like this have been, and always will be moany little bit. . . you get my point The PS3 is not a computer it is a console its not made for mods, hacks, and stuff like that.

in reply to 1) All xbox's have a 3 year warranty if your friend's xbox breaks down after 3 years or they lose their warranty for tampering or lost their receipt that is hardly Microsoft's fault.
2) I did forget about that and that is a good point.
3) The PS3 had that feature to begin with, generally as time passes you add more features to your product not remove them like Sony has.

1.)I am unaware as to the length of ownership. bested me there.
no point for a two.
3.)Most products today you don't actually own the software just the hardware, sony's EULA states that it may remove features. Sony has also added features like I said crying and hacking servers and pitching a fit won't do anything but hurt the community as is evident.

3)Not according to Sony when they sued Geohot and another hacker I hadn't heard of for hacking their PS3's.

3) If you want a ps3 to stay as is don't download updates, let it become a brick. if you want to play fair like the rest of the world download the updates and be happy with what you've got. Or hack the poop out of your console potentially ruining it and get sued by sony. With these options laid out I choose updates and without remorse.

I just had to have my debit card replaced because someone in Spain got my info and was trying to make fraudulent charges. It's a real P.I.T.A.
But, that's just how it goes with computer technology. *Le Sigh*

Sony Online Entertainment, Sony's PC gaming portion has also been hacked. This time only about 50,000 details were leaked off the top of my head.

For sure only 12,000 Credit Card numbers though.

BTW if sony loved their customers so much why did Sony's servers "have no firewall"... And sony was informed of this 3 months ago.

I'm not a fan boy or anything I just hate the Xbox.

Did an Xbox stab your grandma or something? Besides, if you care so little about getting the content you paid for then why not just buy a PS2? They work better, have some of the best games ever released by Sony, and they won't put your identity or money at risk. And they won't suddenly decide you can't have certain things.

I've never been a console fangirl. I go for what works best and what has the best range of games. The Xbox has worked perfectly for me. Before then, the PS2. I also had a soft spot for the Dreamcast, which was pure win. The only thing I considered a PS3 to be worth thinking about getting for was Metal Gear, and mostly that was just due to nostalgia. And alcohol. It wouldn't be worth the cost, realistically.

In summary, Sony messed up. Badly. I can't say it's a matter of caring that they're doing something now. More likely, it's a matter of not wanting to face huge legal ramifications.
