Just read the article before I came here. Best wishes, and I'm hoping that the surgery will be quick and problem-free. I'm sure all of us here are praying for the same thing. <- Fatsack for luck.

Get well soon Adam. When you are in the recovery process, get someone to rub your back (when you finally feel up to it) after Open Heart surgery, all the muscles in the back and neck are tense as hell.

Thank you everyone. While it's a scary time, my family and I knew this day would come. Like a mysterious shadow stalking you through the woods, you know there's going to be a final showdown sooner or later. This is the inevitable climax of my life-long battle with heart issues. I know these will be the most unrelenting painful weeks and months of my life but afterwards, there's no doubt I'll be in better health than ever. I'm no stranger to hospitals, needles, nurses and surgeons, thanks to all the tests I endured through my childhood (and some injuries in my teens & 20s), so I'm grateful that I've had that experience. I can only think how terrifying it must be for people who have lived perfectly healthy lives before being unexpectedly struck with something terrible like cancer and be thrust into a world of pain and uncertainty. Tim, I know both you and Shayne are no strangers to life-altering medical journeys either, so thanks for the advice. Immediately after surgery I'll be going through a regimented cardiac recovery and rehabilitation program at the local hospital as well as learning to live with a special dietary plan to work with the medication I'll be living with for the rest of my life. I know I've got people looking out for me in the hospital and at home. It's a great comfort knowing you guys are cheering me on from my real home, The Internets

All the best Adam. Hope you make a full recovery. Glad you went to the docs the last time you were complaining about a sore chest.

Open-heart surgery is serious stuff! But you're strong, and I'm sure you'll be fine. Just listen to the doctors and take the recovery slow - I've had several family members recover from chest surgery, and it does take a while to heal. Hugs and good luck you old goat.

haha thank you I'm told that the longest healing process will be where they cut the rib cage down the middle, as that bone takes ages to knit itself back together and it really only gets one shot at properly healing. If I mess it up, I'll regret it forever so I'm determined to take it easy. Maybe the hedges will go untrimmed this Spring
