I usually check once or twice a week. I've been active on these forums for many years,
but live moves on and I've lost a bit of interest in online communities.
I also suspect social media sites to have bitten off a bit of forum populations in general.

I do think it would help to radically shrink the forums, put everything in a tidy archive-section and reduce everything to 3/4 boards or so.
I think it's best to reduce/expand forum structure depending on overall traffic, so there's more perception of things moving forward.
But that's just me, I have no idea what Adam and other people's stance on that is.

Yeah - I check the forums about daily. I know that I'm pretty new, but even over the year and a half that I've been a member, I feel like things have really slowed down. I suspect that back in the day this forum was even more massive (based on people's post rankings), and that a lot of people have left/started posting less. It's too bad, I love everyone's work here  Sad

Maybe the release of Dashkin will boost interest.

Or is there anyway of moving BW into the realm of social media, like a facebook community?  Unfortunately this means more clutter and less ability to archive and build sections etc, but it would result in more activity...I haven't seen anything like this but is there any sort of forums that are an amalgamation of social media/chatroom/forum thing, if you know what i mean?

I miss the days when this used to be a hive of activity...

Well I think we will also see a resurgence of activity once there is new content out. As much as we are a community that talks about our works, and stories, and such, this is  technically a Brackenwood/ Adam Phillips Fan forum, and the last major release was in 2009. So, over the course of almost three years, a lot of attention drops off, members start going other places. It happens.

yeah and when I closed registration (to avoid spambots) it pretty much shut us away. A few months back I briefly reopened registration but we immediately had an influx of spam. Sometimes it's just not worth the full-time maintenance, especially when our mods have moved on with their lives. Grown up, got jobs, had kids. Life goes on Smiley

Back in the day, being part of a forum was THE way to be involved in an online community. Pieter's right though, social media is the new way. If you're interested, there is a Brackenwood Entertainment page on Facebook, and a BCA FX page on Google+. It's a fact of life that we all move on from online communities though. The only person who doesn't get to move on, or take a break is me Tongue

First and foremost.... I have not grown up yet, and blatantly refuse to do so anytime soon.
I think there is a lot of structured communication that is available in a forum setting that is not really yet available with social media sites. Im willing to bet we see a resurgence of members when we see some new content from Adam.

(Fingers crossed...)

There has to be some life left in the idea of forums, otherwise you really wouldn't see things like reddit surviving. (Which is where my online life is now located). I do keep brackenwood on my top links bar, and click it to see if there's anything new/interesting or needs to be read. Its sad to see a lot of forum structures leaving though. Social media is a huge part in it.

The reason social media is more popular is purely due to the impatience and narcissism of humans. We like people commenting and chatting all the time, being recognised for the comments we say and being shown approval.

The turn around time between typing a message and having it read and liked on FB is far quicker than a forum. FB is purely throw away comments, fast food for the mind. Forums on the other hand are very niche, therefore its content tends to be of a higher but slower caliber in my opinion. I tend to see FB as an inbetweener of chatrooms and forums. Also facebook realtime updates make it easy to see what is going on at a top level allowing the person to dive deeper into something they wanna talk about. Forums like this show what has been updated in sections from the top level, but it takes more clicks to get to the rest of the content and explore.  The fact the facebook follows things for you and reports back constantly is another factor. In forums people have to make the effort themselves. Ease of use is everything into today's lazy societies. And we're all guilty of it.

Also timezone difference is a big factor. Normally here is dead when I'm online.

With that said, I think forums can slightly reshape themselves to encourage more posting, and the simple idea of "liking" a comment is a powerful one, as it gives people a reason to feel good about themselves and thus post more.

Any chance a like feature can be added to the forum Tongue

I just came back to the forum for the first time since 2010. I'm sad to see it so dead, but I still see a few friendly faces I used to talk to.
