He can't allow you to tap it unless he knows what you're trying to tap. It's like volunteering for something you have no knowledge of.
But if you really wanted to...

If "that" is my dog, then you can do that any old time you want. He's not picky.

I wouldn't advise attempting my dog. You'd probably break her leg. And the less said about the cats the better.

can we change the subject? I made bread rolls this morning. They were alright. You know, I never know when to use "where" or "were" because they're both so similar! I mean, We're is obvious, I can use We're fairly effectively but I just get stuck on "where" and "were"! Oh, we have a new kettle! It should actually boil water now, so I can have cups of tea! That'll be nice. I've missed my Earl Gray. Earl Gray is delicious. it has a slightly lemony taste to it, and it's so tasty especially in the morning. it really sets me up for the day! But no one does tea as good as my friends dad. He makes the best tea ever. He must have magic tea making skills or something, because I've never seen anyone else make as nice a cup as him. /madness

I've actually noticed that somewhat in your writing. I think it's easy to distinguish when to use each of them. 'Were' is kind of a third person plural term used to define a past tense. Like if you had a first person sentence in the past tense: "I was walking across the street." When changing the sentence to a third person perspective and keeping it in a past tense, you get: "We were walking across the street" or "He/she was walking across the street." Were, was, had been are all pretty much interchangeable depending on the context of the sentence. 'Where'...is just where, lol. Where defines a place, or where something is, when thinking of it in its simplest form. If you ever use a sentence that asks for some form of location, you would use where. Example would be: "Where should we go to eat, dear?" Even a sentence that asks for a hypothetical location uses where, example: "Where on Earth did you come up with an idea like that??" Obviously there's no straight answer to that, but since it's still asking for a location, where will be involved. Then you can combine them! "Where were we when we waddled wildly?" Once again it asks for a location, except this time the sentence is asked in the past tense, so you use were. And once again the first person form of this sentence would be "where was I when I waddled wildly?" Hope it makes sense, guess it kind of depends on how much of the internal mechanism of English you understand.

There's nothing more frustrating to me than when I see a sentence like any of these:
"I stole there food. Their going to be mad. They're they are!"
"I'm to sleepy. I'm going too bed now."
"They where here before. Were have they gone?"
See what I did there?
