I might as well start the first topic to try and clear up some things about Sarus.
As far as I know, nobody has come up with a definite way to use hand signals to communicate Sarus effectively. The original Soresol was intended for use by the handicapped so a method for hand communication like sign language is useful. My idea for the hand signs is as follows...
Using one hand, the thumb is used to 'point' to parts of the hand dictating different syllables. By touching different parts of the fingers, the speaker can quickly show which syllables compose a word. The knuckles and tips of the fingers are the locations of the syllables.
Index finger knuckle = Space or end of word/sentence. Index finger tip = Do Middle finger tip = Re Middle finger knuckle = Mi Ring finger tip = Fa Ring finger knuckle = So Little finger tip = La Little finger knuckle = Ti
By touching each part of the hand with the thumb and returning to the 'start', index knuckle, words are made.
I'm not sure how easy this is to understand as I don't know anyone else that knows Sarus but its fast and easy to use.
As a bonus question: Is the adjectival version of Sarus, Saruan? e.g Saruan language.

Begin at the base position. Thumb resting on the top of the hand on the spacer. (-) Touch the part of the hand the represents the first syllable. Touch each other syllable to create a word and return to the base. Close your hand to represent a completed sentence.

My hope was that this would be fast and easy to learn. I sometimes sign short sentences to myself by tapping my hand to remember words or phrases. The only problem I saw was that it could be harder to read when signing to someone else. I might do a short video of a couple of sentences using this and see if you can understand.
Before this becomes more widely used, there is a slight change that could be made. 'Ti' is used far more often than many of the other syllables as it is the positive marker as well as meaning is, am or be. Currently, 'Ti' is at the bottom of the hand, making it slightly more difficult to reach when signing.
This means that 'Ti' will be harder to sign and understand than the other letters. We could change the order of the syllables to start at the bottom of the hand, moving inwards. Making the new order...
Index finger knuckle = Space or end of word/sentence. Index finger tip = Ti Middle finger tip = So Middle finger knuckle = La Ring finger tip = Mi Ring finger knuckle = Fa Little finger tip = Do Little finger knuckle = Re
This makes 'Ti' the easiest to recognise as it makes an 'ok' sign with the hand and makes it easier to sign over and over. This also has the adverse affect of making the signing harder to learn as the signs now work backwards.
My question is wheather you are fine to keep the current system or change to the reverse.

Wow. Really easy and effective. It should become "standard" sarus sign language =)

I was hoping to make something the standard but should we change it before it does? I like it the current way but I've never seen it signed and don't know how easy it is to understand from another persons point of view

Sarus is a very versatile language and I encourage people to come up with their own ways of using it. If you have good ideas for hand signals, go right ahead and use them, spread them around, whatever. The 'standard' will be posted someday on the Sarus lessons pages but in the meantime, personalising the language is encouraged
