Do Not Think of What it Is You Eat . . .But of Who

« on: October 01, 2008, 07:45:14 AM »

Dear Anyone Reading This,
Below is a very crude and rather infantile flash loop of my character designs as of now. Since I am postponed until I can acquire a new Flash, these will probably get a redesign. That being said I wanted to get lots of opinions about them and how I might go about them all the more better.

Just disregard that freaky bunny thing in the corner - It was the VERY first thing I had ever drawn in flash, I guess I put her there for sentimental reasons.

p.s. Would someone mind telling me how someone goes about adding a flash onto a post? I can't seem to figure that little piece out. It would be most appreciated, I'm such a noob sometimes . . .

For inserting a flash into a post, click the "insert flash" button (it looks like a red circle with spokes).

Some quick comments about the characters in the link:

Lower right: make the elbows & knees bend. It looks robotic if they don't.
Upper right: he should bob up & down as he walks. Also, if you think about the way those legs are walking, it is unrealistic. The back leg seems to be moving in the opposite direction from the other ones, for one thing. Here's a suggestion: Make your thumb & the three other fingers furthest away from it (not the index finger) walk across the table, and record what you see (the order in which the different fingers make contact with the table). Use that to build your walk animation.

Upper & lower left images look fine to me. The shoulders of that thin man might be moving up & down a tad too much. Also, since he's walking, his body should probably be moving up & down a little (but only a little, because he's taking small steps).

Those are all great notes. Thank you Esn.

- Lower Right - That's the freaky bunny thing that you should just ignore, I'm definitely not using it in anything at the moment. It was the very first thing I had ever gotten to move just using tweens, so I'm not gonna bother making changes to it. It obviously needs some knees though  Grin

- Upper Right - While making this motion. I used a similar method to the one you've described but I used the four fingers and excluded the thumb. Watching this I noted that one finger wanted to push off from the back and the others pulled forward, if you look closely you'll see that that leg IS going in the opposite direction because it's pushing instead of pulling. In the future I plan for all the legs to be moving differently than they are now.

- Upper Left corner/Upper left middle - Actually there is a huge amateur mistake between the two picture of the gray guy. That mistake is that they should be facing the same direction. They are a reflection to each other other than opposite sides of the same thing. It's also true that he should bob up and down a teensy bit.
