Hey guys. After watching Transdermal Celebration for the 7th billion time I've been thinking.

I heard/ read somewhere, one time that to get your own style you have to start with the basics. And by basics I mean understandment of reality. Now, I noticed that Mr. Phillips, to use an example, aswell as many others have a very unique cartoonish style of drawing. It got me wondering wether they started off developing this style when they started drawing, or wether they started with an understanding of anatomy and realism then jumped into it.

I really want to make my style more unique and easier to implement into animating. Currently I'm working, and have nearly finished, a short for Halloween and so far the art style of it is barely any different to my normal style. Which is very much realism with a slight cross of cartoonism. I really want to develop for myself a cartoony feel. I, personaly, want to be a Concept Artist when I reach that age. But I consider free-lance animation as it also appeals to me... But I think if I want to get into animation I should develop a simpler, uniquer style. I also think if I'm to be a Concept Artist I should carry on the path I'm going. I know I can and will do both but I find it hard to come up with a unique style that hasn't been done before. Alot of people love Mr. Phillips for his animation skills and others for his art. I am entised by his art and want to implement part of his style into my own...

Here's a screenshot of my upcoming animation, it really isn't the best piece to show off but whatever:

It's a rather realistic take and not as simple and attractive as it could be. Simplicity is bliss. I have years to develop, I am only 14 afterall...

Discuss, tips, and tell me how you developed your style?

Hey, i developed (or more so really made progress) with my cartooning style recently. For a while i was terrible at drawing probably because i tried to copy my friends style for a long time to no avail. This is when i worked out that he pretty much based his style off the artist/ animator/ co-founder of The Behemoth Dan Paladin. I thereafter played the games and studied his art and basically copied him, and as i because more confident i starting adding my own twists and developing my own style. Here- http://forums.thebehemoth.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1060&p=15983&hilit=+industry#p15983 is some examples of my slightly older artwork, i've expanded my drawing capability and i will link to any flash games that actually get finished around here one of these days. Anyway, good luck with your drawing persuits, hope this helped. Oh and if you were wondering, we (or when it was just 2 of us) are no longer the "Mechanation" (yes i made that word up out of mechanist and machination) we've got a huge list of company name ideas to sort through now.
