We all love telling other people about the dream we had last night.. problem is, we all know how painful can be to listen to someone else's dream! What sucks about other people's dreams? The words "boring" and "long" come to mind.
Therefore:
  • RULE #1 - You must summarise your dream in one relatively short paragraph. Write it, then rewrite it. Practise being descriptive without repeating yourself or over-wording it.
  • RULE #2 - It must have an interesting concept, narrative or even a flow. We all have those random dreams full of silly crap that makes no sense whatsoever, so don't tell us that one. Don't you hate listening to someone tell that kind of dream? They always think it's really interesting but let's be honest.. it's not Wink
  • RULE #3 - Stay true to the dream! It's a pure spark of an idea so don't stink it up by inventing missing details or embellishing. Otherwise it becomes a story and there's an entire storytelling forum here for that purpose.

Use the Preview button and re-read before hitting the Post button. Above all though, don't feel compelled to relate a dream here for the sake of it. Only post here if you've had a good dream that makes an interesting story and a bit of sense. Feel free to briefly describe your post-dream feeling or experience too, for example: so I spent the entire day with the idea in the back of my mind that I really can fly, if only I could remember that magic word.

The idea that something your mind invented while you were asleep could inspire another story or a creative burst (your own or even someone else's) is truly amazing. There's a couple of good reasons to read and post in this thread: 1. to throw around some off-beat ideas and inspiration. and 2. to practise creative writing.
Anything you post here could inspire someone else's story and in fact, if you're ever low on inspiration for stories or ideas drop by here to browse the ideas.
From time to time, I'll drop in and rate the best ones by colour-coding them. For example: good (dusty blue), great (medium blue), excellent (bright blue)

I'll start off with my dream from last night:

I sat at a table in morning sunlight. I had a pair of tweezers and a precision screwdriver in my hands. While talking to some faceless person in the room, I absently spun the screwdriver between my fingers, like you'd spin a top. Suddenly the screwdriver seemed to be moving of its own accord. I looked down and the tip of the screwdriver hovered, spinning between the tweezers. It was as if the tweezers were an anti-gravity device and the screwdriver was allowed to spin unhindered. The great thing was that the screwdriver was gaining speed until I realised it would only get faster and more dangerous unless I stopped it now. I pinched it tightly between two fingers and it tore some of my skin away as it stopped. I realised that I had discovered perpetual motion!

Of course I was a little disappointed to wake up and discover that I hadn't discovered perpetual motion.

Gosh i had a great one last week but ive forgotten it.
Surprisingly i remember one i had when i was in primary school much easier.

It all began a normal school day. But suddenly my feet were wet, before i knew it people around me were being pulled to the side, by powerful, deap water.
The school had been flooded.
I soon got gushed away, and held onto a post, my legs were swaying off in the rapids. Students were being pulled away. i remember being really sad that id let a yong girl soar past without lifting a hand to help her.
Soon enough, buildings started to collapse around me, classroom walls exploding and the ceilings caveing in, bits of metal floating past me. Soon i lost my grip and i fell.

i remember finding myself stuck under a desk in the staff room.
one of the teachers was hideing in a cupboard.
i pulled some wires from the desk and the computer fell on top of me, i got electrocuted and died.

before i finished and woke up, i saw the teacher step out of the cupboard to a destroyed school.

(twas a summary Cheesy)

edit:
my dream is less weird that some might expect a dream and more dramatic

i had had this dream a little while ago.
I had just bought a small shack with a hill down the left side and a river at the bottom of the hill. the area was covered in pine trees and the ground by dead pine needles. a few days after buying the house, ghosts began to appear. the first was a tentacle thing that was covered in the pine needles. the next was a drowned girl from the well that appeared at the end of the hill near the road (can't remember the rest). they were helpful at first but began to attack. once while i was out side the pine needle tentacle thing attacked showing an extendable sucker-mouth, kinda like a leech's. i began to run away, and turned into a dwarf (not a midget, the "lets go mining" type dwarf). i ran from the house and met up in town with a bunch of people from my school's game club. we went to a bar type place that had a door like one of those old movie theaters, with the bouncer in the ticket booth and a red curtain behind him. the guy wouldn't let us in, but the owner (who was one of those rich fat guys) told him to wave us in. we went inside and it was like a child's room only we were the size of action figures, and the letter blocks made up the tables. we began discussing the house and then...
my alarm went off and i never got to finish the dream.

This one took place in a small town Järvakandi where I used to spend my summers when I was younger. It was set in my aunt's apartment, on the top floor a commie block type house -a place where a lot of my nightmares happen.

I was on the cellar floor where a huge cinema screen was showing how a tornado was about to come dangerously close to the house. In panic, I found myself back in the flat, now with my sister, niece, mother and aunt herself. We could see from the kitchen window that the tornado was aiming straight for us, so we decided to hide in the bathroom, because it was too late to run into the cellar.
My sister and niece got into the bath tub and pulled something big over their head for protection. My aunt and I were holding the door closed, arms stretched out, and the room started to shake. We stood there for a minute, with horrifying rumbling noise outside.
"Shouldn't it be over by now?" she asked and the whole room was suddenly ripped apart from the rest of the house -- I could feel it with my feet that we were flying in circles. I was afraid it would throw us on the ground and the impact would kill us, but before anything could happen, a crack in one of the walls on the left of me was getting more wide, letting in a blinding white light to which I woke up.

I've seen myself trying to outrun tornadoes, or hiding from them, but each time I would eventually fail.
Tonight though, I saw myself in my birth place Tallinn, again in one of the commie block houses, sitting in the corridor and watching an absolutely striking twister safely run past me. It was really pretty.

Guess I got something sorted out in my life?

This one is from a few years back, but it's one of my favorites, and most epic.  And probably one of the more cohesive in terms of plot.

I found myself in a clearing in a forest that seemed strangely familiar.  I seemed to know where I was and how to get to many places.  I was dressed in a shirt of maille and armed with a sword at my hip and a shield on my back.  I was just beginning a stroll though the forest when I heard a sharp sound not far away.

I quickly marched to a large clearing, where a group of a half-dozen goblin-creatures was surrounding a young maiden and with a look of general menace, which is of course their wont.  For obvious reasons, I unsheathed my sword and yelled at the creatures at the top of my lungs, grabbing their attention.  They looked at me, their crimson eyes gleaming in the evening light.  It was then I realised that I was hopelessly outmatched, so I turned tail and ran.  I could feel their hot breaths on the back of my neck, but I kept ahead of them with my superior knowledge of the forest.  I looped around back to the clearing, and killed the lone goblin still harassing the comely lass with a quick swipe of my sword.  I grabbed her hand and lead her into the trees.

The goblins had spread out among the trees now, broadening their search, so they were easy to pick off when we came upon them.  I don't know where we were heading, but I never found out, because suddenly there was a loud buzzing birdcall next to my ear.  Turned out to be my alarm clock...

Why has this thread only five posts? Sad

I don't think I've ever killed anyone in my dreams, well maybe except for that one time when I threw a shuriken star in someone's face...
oh the remorse... But there was a period where I was really angry at people in my dreams, kept on shouting things that sounded really witty in my head. It was a nice way to let it all out without hurting anyone.

my most vivid and frequent dreams are (in order of frequency):
  • flying
  • fighting
  • telekinesis

My flying technique is to take huge leaps and try to level out at the top of the arch, but inevitably I glide gently back to earth whilst trying my hardest to concentrate on lift. If I need to go great distances, I'll aim for high places like the tops of telephone poles, trees or buildings to relaunch from. Once or twice I've had close calls with overhead electrical cables, which gave me the idea for #21 'Flight' (30 Shorts)

My fighting dreams are usually victories but very often it's difficult to get power behind a punch or swing - in the same way it's difficult to make powerful strides in a running dream. There have been some hard hits and decisive victories, but generally each punch landed feels lame and doesn't appear to do much.

My telekinesis dreams usually happen quite by surprise, just while talking to someone or walking some place. I look at an object with the slightest bit of interest, it flies towards me and I catch it. Other times it's the opposite. I'm looking at something/somebody I don't like and they are shoved away or pushed aside. One particularly awesome telekinesis dream was back when I was commuting into the city every day. I walked up the stairs to the train platform to find it extremely crowded with peak-hour commuters. As I walked, I expected to be squeezing through the tightly packed crowd, but instead they were flung aside leaving a clear path for me. It was like a huge invisible wedge was parting the crowd in front of me.

this one i had a few nights ago..

i was in front of my grandmothers house looking away facing towards the river which runs parallel to the village. i was still in the yard and i noticed a man with a hatchet digging holes on the bank. i noticed foam started spewing from the holes he was diggin, i asked my mother what is was and she said it was sea foam. i ran out to see and noticed everyone sitting on the river bank looking at these giants elephants in the water. they were facing away form us but i could see they had no eyes, their eye sockets were bleeding. i was then filled with extreme panic and started shouting telling them to run and get away from the river.

meh i dont remember much else.  over the years i've had constant recurring dreams about my grandmothers village, the river or things in the river.  Undecided

I have a quite often recurring dream where I'm a stable boy, but not any regular stableboy. I'm the Dragon Stableboy! The land is called "Regolith"(Funny that) and rulled by a monarchy with knights and things. When I was younger the rich noble knight kids used to play with me, but now I'm older I tend to just hang with them, funny enough they taught me how to fight, let me roam the castle and ride Dragons and Horses aswell.

The city is a bit of a poor, dirty place with a half murkey stream running near the middle of it. It also has a big podium and square before a dirt road leads to the main castle through the pine. I usually hang out with some second rate thieves group in the city, who also taught me how to "fight".

There is a moderate pine Forrest behind the castle and a small amount looping around it, with a small gap just before the castle for the horses and dragons. There is also an old respected dragon living in the Forrest who now and then comes up to say hi and eat.

About 15-20% of my dreams happen in that setting, so I tell people it's where I used to live when I tell story's from my dream. Grin

I figured why not do a quick picture to help you understand, buuut it ended up being a picture, try deciphering it! Tongue

indeed mine follow that of owning powerful telekenetic power. they are my absolute favourite ones!

the last one i can remember.. i was at my old primary school playground.. normaly filled with concrete and brick there where surpriseingly more trees and greass areas around (as most dreams get distorted).
there where kids everywhere and even one of my current best friends who i never met until a few years into highschool. we where walking towards a set of classrooms and a faceless person had stepped out from behind a corner with three others holding blunt objects. i turned to my friend and he had started to run.. closely behind where one of the assailants. im starting to get that cold feeling in my stomach as another comes towards me.. i closed my eyes and pictured his head inflating until bursting. halfway through my thoughs.. the young lads head started to inflate and his two counterparts screamed in horror. i turned to face another.. the look of fear emitted off of his face like nothing i have ever witnessed.. turning to run.. i reached my hand forward and although the lad was far from arms length.. i could feel his neck in my grasp as i clamped my fingers into a fist.. stopping in mid stroke.. the boy dropped dead in the middle of the grass area. telekeneticly i threw his lifeless corpse far over the horizon. as if things wherent getting exciting enough.. i could feel lumps from under my shoulder blades emerging.. big black wings burst from my skin and shoot out to only bring the level of horror on the last remaining lad. as he turned to run.. i ran.. at incredible speed.. appeared infront of him with glowing eyes (for some strange reason.. i could tell they where glowing) and my voice was that of a demonic tone.. i laughed at him and reached for his collar.. but he turned and ran. angry at this i thought of the ever famous "blink" teleportational skill from the show "charmed" and instantly i was "blinked" infront of him. the young boy.. now screaming and crying.. i leaned him in closer to me and asked " so... this is what you came for ?" (makes little sense now that im awake and thinking about it), telekeneticly throwing him a fair distance from me i turned towards one of the school demountables and raised them with my thoughts.. moved them far above his head... and allowed my link to let go.. allowing gravity to take its toll.

and as far as i can remember i awoke after that. I LOVE TELEKENETIC DREAMS!

Ooh, I have flying dreams too.  I'll be dreaming about walking home from work or something like that, and I'll just decide that it's better to take bigger strides, so I start to jump really high effortlessly.  Then I usually lose control in midair and end up landing on my face.  If it hurts I generally wake up(sometimes not, which is really freaky), but usually I just feel the impact of the ground without the pain.  Then I get up, brush myself off, and start jumping again...
I just realised when I was typing this that in the back of my mind I've always remembered these dreams as real.  As if it actually happens to me when I'm awake.  I know it really doesn't, never has and never will, but I feel like it has.  I'm a little weirded out by this actually... gah!

When I was little, I used to have nightmares about the Beetlejuice cartoon searies. I was running through this dirty neon landscape of greens and purples and white, being chaced by this huge wriggly striped mass of evil in a suit. Then his shoes would get really long, and he would step on me and hold me underneath them, and stand above me grinning horribly, then I would wake up.
