I'm trying to find the name of a French musical style - something that I heard on the radio.  I can't link to any online examples, but it involves gentle, slow melodies in minor keys, often with the melody played on what seems to be an accordion and accompanied by one guitar playing chords on off-beats.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I know nothing about musical theory, but do you mean something like these examples?

These don't quite match the description tough...

That third one is closest (the first one is from an anime and seems to be in a fairly different style, and the second is French but is far too lively). It was kinda similar to "Bruno's Theme" (track 7) from "Triplets of Belleville".  Or this song, less so (not the voice or even the instrumentation, just that general mood, pace and harmonies).

I'm just trying to zero in on what exactly it is and what it's called... I'm sure there must be a name for it.

I don't know much about musical styles or genres, but two terms I've came across is "French Valse" and "Basque country".
